Polys roll out different initiatives to help their graduates upgrade their skills or find jobs

The local polytechnics are rolling out different initiatives to help their graduates upgrade their skills or find employment, in light of the COVID-19 crisis. This is similar to what the local universities have launched for their graduates. For example, NP has launched a graduation support package that includes more than 380 job employment and learning opportunities for the graduating Class of 2020. NP will also offer graduates career guidance.
Each RP graduate is entitled to attend three complimentary SkillsFuture Series courses across different fields such as data analytics and tech-enabled services. TP graduates from the Class of 2020 will also receive a $500 course credit, which they can use to sign up for a post-diploma certificate or specially curated courses.
In addition, applications will open for 4,000 of the 8,000 traineeship positions that have been promised for fresh ITE, polytechnic and university graduates on June 1. The paid traineeships supported by the Government are being offered by over 280 companies and organisations, including Singtel, DBS Bank, Surbana Jurong, the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University. The Government, which has set aside $100 million for the scheme called SGUnited Traineeships, hopes to make graduates more employable when the job market picks up after the coronavirus pandemic.
Although all polytechnics have cancelled their graduation ceremonies, they are commemorating this special occasion in various ways. NP has released graduation-themed ‘stickers’ and backgrounds for students to use on social media platforms like Instagram.
