Paving the Way Ahead
Catalysing Social Impact
In recognition of our sustained drive in enacting social impact, the National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre awarded Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) the prestigious Champion of Good Award in July – an affirmation of our commitment to impactful initiatives such as Dialogue in the Dark and Service-Learning, which fosters empathy and social awareness in our students.
Furthering our social mission, we launched the Centre for Organisational Resilience and Inclusion (CORI) in August. CORI extends NP’s social impact into the realm of corporate entities by supporting organisations in building healthy, inclusive systems that thrive amid disruption. It offers training, consultancy, and research to enhance workplace and community well-being.
We also strengthened our Social Sustainability Learning Framework, enabling students to tap into ESG-related career opportunities. Final-year students across all 36 diploma programmes can now embark on Corporate Purpose Internships with purpose-driven companies. With support from the Lien Foundation, we introduced the Social Impact Scholarship to help students deepen their engagement in social causes and develop leadership in this space.
Nurturing Highly Versatile Graduates
In today’s volatile global environment, agility and adaptability are essential. We have restructured our curriculum to promote flexibility and multidisciplinary learning, empowering learners to become resilient, future-ready professionals.
In January, we introduced Go FLEX – a flexible curriculum framework that offers students more ownership of their learning journey and in-demand skill development.
Among its innovations is the Double Major Programme – the first of its kind for diploma-level students in Singapore – which allows students from five engineering and IT diplomas to take a second major in business. The dual focus broadens their career and academic prospects.
Launched in 2021, our Personalised Learning Pathway (PLP) continues to grow in popularity. The programme allows our full-time diploma students to pursue a Minor by completing three Learning Units (LUs) during their course of study. In the Class of 2025, nearly half the cohort chose to take at least one LU, and one in four graduates earned a Minor in addition to their diploma – gaining a valuable edge in adjacent fields.
As Generative AI reshapes industries, we have taken steps to ensure our students are equipped to thrive. Our GenAI in Curriculum Teaching & Learning Framework embeds GenAI capabilities across all diploma courses. About 80 modules now apply the PAIR (Problem, AI, Interaction, Reflection) framework, empowering students to use AI responsibly and effectively while fostering critical digital skills.
Leveraging Industry Partnerships
To stay aligned with industry needs, we co-create relevant, real-world learning opportunities with our partners.
Last September, the School of Health Sciences collaborated with ZEISS to enhance the Diploma in Optometry curriculum. The new NP-ZEISS Management Suite features the cutting-edge ZEISS Vision Experience and MyoConsult platform. Students also benefit from the new NP-ZEISS Specialised Overseas Internship Programme.
In October, the School of Film & Media Studies partnered with Singtel to launch an apprenticeship programme for students to learn about managing digital marketing campaigns. As part of their internship, students contributed to Project NarrAItive – an AI-powered storytelling campaign commemorating Singapore’s 60th anniversary.
To enrich the learning experience for students in the Diploma in Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering, we signed an MOU with Merck Singapore in November. Together, we co-designed and co-delivered modules in biopharmaceutical manufacturing, giving students access to hands-on training in the latest technologies and internship opportunities in the sector.
We also continued our commitment to workforce transformation. Notably, NP became the first polytechnic co-opted by UOB for its Better U Pivot programme. Aimed at reskilling up to 500 employees, the programme features custom learning plans, mentorship, and on-the-job training. It was also extended to UOB staff in Malaysia.
In early 2024, we formed the NP Built Environment Ecosystem (BEE) with 15 organisations to advance digital facilities management (FM) training for Whole-of-Government FM professionals. Our inaugural Digital FM course, conducted with JTC’s Centre of Excellence in July, brought together FM professionals from JTC, CBRE Singapore, and Jones Lang LaSalle Singapore, equipping them with innovation-driven, data-informed practices.
Equipping Learners with Global Lenses
More than 2,000 students – double the number from last year – embarked on 56 Overseas Immersion Programme (OIP) trips to China, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam. These experiences strengthened their cross-cultural communication and global awareness. Two trips were integrated with academic modules for the first time.
One such trip saw nearly 30 Design students specialising in Architecture develop masterplans for Taman Simalem Resort in Medan, Indonesia. Beyond real-world project experience, students gained valuable cultural insights and exposure to community-focused design.
Additionally, over 300 students participated in 16 Youth Expedition Projects (YEPs), supporting underserved communities across Southeast Asia. Through experiential learning activities like infrastructure upgrades, health screening, and teaching essential skills, students made tangible contributions while deepening their understanding of social impact.
Staying on Track
Our continued progress is made possible by the dedication and passion of our staff, who strive every day to deliver meaningful impact. We thank them for their commitment to our shared mission.
We are also deeply grateful to parents, alumni, donors, advisory committees, industry and community partners, and our parent Ministry. Your trust and partnership remain vital to our mission. We appreciate the guidance of our fellow Council Members, including Mr Chua Tiow Chye, Professor Benedict Koh, Mr Esa Han Hsien Masood and BG Phua Jia Kai who stepped down in March 2025. At the same time, we warmly welcome the following new members to the Council – Ms Eileen Chua, Ms Isabel Chong, Ms Kok Moi Lre, Mr Robert Phua Chung Ann and Ms Tan Chee Wei.
By deepening social impact, expanding future-focused learning, and strengthening industry connections, we are creating a nurturing, forward-looking environment. As the world evolves, we remain committed to opening new doors, paving the way ahead for our learners to shape their own futures.
