It was a privilege to know more about the different experiences in the different kinds of working field. I definitely recommend students to participate in future campus talks!

We visited the flower dome whereby we get to learn how engineers were able to design the whole dome in a way that it was able to chill the whole dome as well as keeping the plants in a healthy condition.

The BCA SkyLab is the world’s first high-rise rotatable laboratory for the tropics. The Skylab is essentially a testbed for companies to trial and experiment their products. The various sensors located around the SkyLab allows for a comprehensive collection of data, allowing companies to determine their product’s effectiveness.

Tuas South Incineration Plant (TSIP) is the fourth and largest refuse incineration plant in Singapore. Handling of 3000 tonnes of waste every day, that is 1750Kg of waste incinerated in 1 minute.

Here, we got to see various implementation of existing technology. My favorite example was a video analytics system, which was able to detect movement in videos. This allowed an automated system to detect high frequency areas, trespassers, and even illegally parked cars.

We were able to travel all around Gardens by the Bay to see how it functions, from the glossy exterior presented to the public to the integral more sheltered-off areas that are the main backbone of the entire landmark.

It was rather enriching because we learnt about how the park uses natural wood waste to harvest energy, as well as the Flower Dome, where we learnt how the cooling system works. Truly an Engineering Feat :)

Singapore is the only island city state in the world. As such, a constant redevelopment and expandature of our land use is very important. One of most well known ways Singapore uses to expand their land space is through land reclaimation. 

One of the experiments done in SkyLab is automated binds. The aim is to have a fully automated bind that can tilt automatically at different specific angles to allow the sun to pass through without direct hitting.

Singapore City Gallery has way more to offer than just the exhibition! On a typical day, it really is basically a ‘museum’ that showcases distinctive sections of past, present and future land usage.

Through the learning journey, we learnt about how the lab constantly develops future sustainable solutions to tackle industrial and complex urban challenges with their concept of "building cities and shaping lives.

Elijah is a mechanical engineer in Technik 2, a department under HOPE Technik that develops and delivers innovative technology through provision of customised engineering products and solutions for various industries. In his appointment, Elijah is part of a team that provides engineering input in terms of the mechanical portion of the various projects Technik 2 undertakes. Key projects that he has worked on includes unmanned aerial vehicles, composites and even mechanical portions of automated control systems.

Edwin is the Director for Product Management & Delivery Group 2. He manages a team of healthcare IT professionals to support the Singapore Public Healthcare. He is also involved in enabling the IT capabilities for the new healthcare settings such as Seng Kang General Hospital, National Centre for Infectious Disease (NCID). He is presently handling the national pharmacy integrated system, which transforms the Singapore pharmacy landscape to meet the future needs of the ageing population.

A PhD graduate in Computational Physics from the University of Cambridge, Dr Louis Lee has worked in the research and intelligence field across various disciplines. With research as his core skills, Dr Lee is the Lead Research Engineer at BioMind and is heavily involved in the R&D of novel deep learning methods for applications in medical image diagnosis. Prior to working in BioMind, Dr Lee was also a corporate Business Intelligence Analyst.
