Pharmaceutical Science


As the race intensifies for a vaccine against COVID-19, the pharmaceutical industry plays a major role in the discovery and development of a life-saving treatment. Discover what it is like to work at the forefront of drug therapy and improve human health when you venture into the Diploma in Pharmaceutical Science (PHARM).

This course will equip you with a solid foundation in biological, chemical and pharmaceutical sciences in your first year, before proceeding onto more advanced topics such as clinical trials, drug manufacturing, pharmaceutics and pharmacology in your second year.

In your final year, you will have the opportunity to go for a six-month internship in in community and hospital pharmacies, or pharmaceutical companies — designed to engage you in learning directly from working professionals. You will apply the skills and experience gained from the course to solve real-life problems as part of a project during your internship.

In addition, you will learn clinical knowledge and pharmacy skills from practising pharmacists in your third-year modules, which will prepare you well for careers in the healthcare industry. Electives related to traditional chinese medicine and nutritional science will be offered to widen your future career choices:

The Complementary Medicine & Traditional Chinese Medicine elective enables you to evaluate the evidence behind alternative therapies and traditional Chinese medicines.

The Nutrition & Dietetic Science elective provides you with a basic understanding of nutritional and dietetic concepts, including the study of nutrients in the diet and their effects on health.

Candidates must have the following GCE 'O' Level examination (or equivalent) results.
