What You Will Learn

This 3-day course is the first short course in industrial automation. The course will start off with lectures to teach participants the necessary concepts of a Programmable Logic Controller – PLC, also known as programmable controller, a type of computer commonly used in commercial and industrial control applications. Conventionally, PLC program is written in ladder logic which monitors the input status of the process and controls the output status based on a pre-determined requirement.

In line with SkillsFuture, this course will be a bridge for intermediate and advance industrial automation geared towards Industry 4.0. It is also the first step towards more advanced programming languages like Sequential Function Chart (SFC), Structured Text, Function Block, and Function Block Diagram etc.

The participants will:

  • Attain skills to complete several industrial application using ladder diagrams without prior PLC programming experience
  • Learn the use of Omron CX programmer software, CX Designer (HMI simulator) software, CJ2M PLC and 3G3MX2 Inverter
  • Study about the general controls, digital and analogue IO, ladder logic programming, HMI emulation, VSD control and more

Trainer's Profile

Eric graduated from the Nanyang Technological University of Singapore with a Bachelor in Electrical & Electronics Engineering (Hons).

Eric has been a full-time lecturer with the Polytechnic since 2011. Prior to that, he worked in various SMEs and MNCs as an industrial automation and service engineer for 8 years.

Eric specialises in teaching the Industrial Control and Automation module from the Modular Certification in Instrumentation & Control as a trainer with the CET Academy. He also undertakes research projects, working with hospitals for health and assistive technologies.
