Course Description

This workshop aims to equip new and existing cat owners with in depth knowledge and practical skills on how to provide optimum care for their cat to ensure that each cat is provided with basic medical care and reduce the number of abuse, neglect and abandonment cases. The course also provides participants with the knowledge on the rules and regulations of keeping a cat in Singapore.

Course Outline

At the end of the course, the applicant will be able to:

  • Perform basic physical examination on their cat
  • Perform basic ear cleaning and nail trimming procedures
  • Perform a body condition score
  • Understand nutritional needs of a cat at different stages
  • Identify the food types which are toxic to cats
  • Create a secure environment for an indoor cat in a high-rise building
  • Provide a mentally enriching and stimulating environment for a cat
  • Work with the layout of a house so that it is suitable for a single- or multi-cat household
  • Various types of preventive medication and vaccinations, and on the common zoonotic diseases carried by cats
  • Minimize the chances of contracting any zoonotic diseases from a cat
  • Understand feline vaccination protocols, internal and external parasite control
  • Administer pills and liquid medication to a cat
  • Understand the pros and cons of sterilizing their cat
  • Interpret the body language of a cat
  • Acquire knowledge on the rules and regulations of keeping a cat in Singapore
  • This course will be delivered in English and has NO assessment.

    Certificate of Participation will be awarded to participants who achieve at least 75% attendance.

Full course fee


Singaporeans aged 50 years and above who wish to apply for the course at the special course fee will need to email a copy of their NRIC during the course fee payment before the course commencement.

Course fee is payable upon acceptance. It is inclusive of 7% GST and subject to review.

Dr Dawn Wong (BVSc (Melb) MRCVS GradDipVA CVA) ​

Dr Dawn Wong is a graduate of the University of Melbourne. As a licenced veterinary surgeon in Singapore and the United Kingdom, her special interests include veterinary acupuncture and feline medicine. She is also the Asia territorial manager for a veterinary pharmaceutical company, as well as an adjunct lecturer at Ngee Ann Polytechnic for the Diploma in Veterinary Bioscience, Specialist Diploma in Veterinary Clinical Practice and Diploma Conversion in Veterinary Clinical Science. She is owned by 3 cats and 1 dog.​
