Data Visualisation for BusinessThis module aims to equip students with fundamental concepts of Data Visualisation for Business to develop interactive management dashboards for decision making. This involves applying best dashboard design principles, data story-telling techniques as well as insight gathering techniques. Students will learn how to organize data, perform data preparation, develop interactive dashboards, design data story-telling reports and automate repetitive tasks.
Statistics in BusinessThis module exposes students to the fundamental concepts of statistics using popular programming language and tools. Students will be equipped with statistical knowledge and techniques to perform Data Visualisation for Business, make statistical inference and help businesses answer their problems. Statistical methods will also be used to make predictions in order to help management make better data-driven decisions. This module incorporates the course ‘Statistics Bootcamp’ from NUS-ISS’s MTech EBAC stackable programmes.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements may be considered for admission to the course based on evidence of at least 5 years of relevant working experience or supporting evidence of competency readiness. Suitable applicants who are shortlisted may have to go through an interview and/or entrance test. The Polytechnic reserves the right to shortlist and admit applicants.

Q1. Will the Certificates in the Specialist Diploma be jointly issued with the Institute of Systems Science (NUS-ISS)?Specialist Diploma in Business & Decision Analytics graduate certificate will bear the Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) logo only. However for students who successfully complete the course they will also receive the Certificate of Completion for each of the three courses incorporated from the NUS-ISS Master of Technology in Enterprise Business Analytics (MTech EBAC) stackable programmes.
Q2. How does the collaboration with NUS-ISS work?There are three courses incorporated from NUS-ISS’ Graduate Certificate of Business Analytics Practice which is also part of the Master of Technology in Enterprise Business Analytics (MTech-EBAC) programme. These three courses comprises ‘Statistics Bootcamp’, ‘Data Analytics Process & Best Practice’ and ‘Predictive Analytics – Insights of Trends and Irregularities’ (more infomation can be found
here). ‘Statistics Bootcamp’ will be taught in the module ‘Statistics in Business’ and ‘Data Analytics Process & Best Practice’ and ‘Predictive Analytics – Insights of Trends and Irregularities’ will be taught in the module ‘Business Predictions’. The content from these three courses will be taught as-is.
Upon successful completion of the relevant modules of the Specialist Diploma, students will gain recognition for their acquired skills assessed in the same modules of the NUS-ISS Stackable Programmes. This will open up potential pathways for continued skills mastery through NUS-ISS’ MTech EBAC programmes in the future
Q3. Will the courses be conducted in the day?Yes. The courses will be conducted in the day with the dates indicated as above. The program is designed such that each session is a block of 3 consecutive days in a month.
Q1. Are there any skills or knowledge required before applying for the course?The course does not require students to have any prior knowledge in Analytics nor computer programming. However, a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel is needed as the course involves intensive use of data and analytics tools with drag-and-drop features and some programming.
Q2. What are some of the software used in the course?We will be using popular analytics drag-and-drop tools for data visualisation (e.g Microsoft Power BI, Tableau) and predictive analytics (e.g. Microsoft Azure ML Studio, RapidMiner, IBM SPSS Modeler). These will include open-source coding platforms (e.g. R or Python) as well.
Q3. What are the various assessments required in order to pass the course?Assessment components will be in the form of quizzes, individual and group projects, as well as other appropriate assessments. However there are no written examinations.
Q4. Who are the trainers?The trainers will be Ngee Ann Polytechnic Lecturers with many years of experience in data-related work. They will also be certified by NUS-ISS to teach the three courses incorporated from the MTech EBAC stackable programmes.
Q5. How are the classes conducted?The sessions indicated above will be conducted face-to-face in classrooms. However there will be online learning which will complement these face-to-face lessons. These will include online discussions, self-learning of materials through videos or slides and online quizzes, amongst others.
