Course Description

This course will equip pet owners with the skills and knowledge to train their dogs using positive methods and handle their dogs when faced with different situations. Besides, it also aims to help owners understand the importance of communication between dogs and owners.




Course Outline

This is a 6-weekly 1.5-hour sessions to introduce positive dog training techniques to help owners understand their dog better. Participants will be working with their dogs through hands-on training sessions with an assessment at the end of the course.

Week 1 (1.5 Hours)

  • No dogs (only owners to attend)
  • How dogs learn
  • Signs of Stress
  • Equipment
  • Name Game
  • Yes Game​

Week 2 (1.5 Hours)

  • Intro to Sit
  • Intro to Stay
  • Intro to Loose leash walking
  • Recall exercises​

Week 3 (1.5 Hours)

  • Intro to Down
  • Recall exercises
  • Real life application of Sit and Stay
  • Week 3 Challenge - Sit

Week 4 (1.5 Hours)

  • Distance Sit and Down
  • Games to enhance fluency in Sit, Down, Stay and Loose Leash Walking
  • Leave it, Shake Hands, Rollover, Spin
  • Week 4 Challenge - Down

Week 5 (1.5 Hours)

  • Games to enhance fluency in Sit, Down, Stay and Loose Leash Walking
  • Week 5 Challenge - Come When Called

Week 6 (1.5 Hours)

  • Games to enhance fluency in Sit, Down, Stay and Loose Leash Walking
  • Week 6 Challenge - Loose Leash Walking

This course will be delivered in English and has NO assessment.

Certificate of Participation will be awarded to participants who achieve at least 75% attendance.

Trainer's Profile

​Angie Tan

Angie Tan founded Puppylove, Singapore’s first dog friendly dog training school in 2001. The school only use science-based Positive Reinforcement methods and learning is kept fun and respectful for both owner and dog. Angie is a U.S. Certified dog trainer, a dog bite safety educator, a professional member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) and a Canine First Responder. She is currently working on her CPDT re-certification which unfortunately lapsed while she took time out to look after her young children. She is also working towards her AVS accreditation.

The Certified Pet Dog Trainer (CPDT) designation is conferred by the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT), the only independent certifying organization for the dog training profession. As part of the certification, trainers must also support the use of LIMA (Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive) methods when working with animals.
