Lau Pei Wen
Chinese Media & Communication Graduate, Class of 2015
What does it take to be an Assistant Programme Manager at Love 97.2 FM? HMS graduate, Pei Wen, showed off her leadership qualities in leading an event for MediaCorp Chinese radio stations last year. She mentored a team of CMC students for their Final Year Project to search for new deejays to join the local radio industry in ‘The Sound Makers 2019’. The event was advertised in multiple marketing channels and attracted over 800 participants for auditions.
“Enrolling in CMC was a natural choice for me as it was (and still is) the only bilingual media course in Singapore. It has laid a strong foundation for me in this career. The broad-based, practical curriculum gave me a competitive edge to stay abreast of the media industry,” she shares. The internship opportunity also trained her in managing multiple projects, ranging from on-air radio campaigns to on-the-ground events, which helped her accumulate rich experience in the industry, “Witnessing projects transform from paper drafts into reality is the most meaningful thing about my job. Working under tight deadlines can be stressful at times, but the sense of accomplishment I get from completing a project is more than wonderful.”
Pei Wen aspires to revitalise the industry by drawing the younger generations back to radio in this digital era. “This may seem like a tall order, but I believe radio still has the potential for growth.” We have confidence in her!
