Ambhigai Puhal d/o Seagar
Psychology Studies* Graduate, Class of 2018
Puhal is a personal care and programme executive at Thuja Home (under Sathya Sai Social Services). The home provides residential care for female destitute persons admitted by the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF). As part of her responsibilities, Puhal develops programmes and activities that help to improve the cognitive levels of her residents. She also works with the residents on their rehabilitation plans.
She shares about her takeaway from HMS, “It has taught me that every individual has the power to make a change. Even if we are not able to make changes to the community instantly, we are able to make positive changes in an individual's world. It has taught me that we should never be tied down by the barriers that we have set upon ourselves, and to always believe in ourselves.”⠀
“On the other hand, PCS has fuelled me with the fundamental knowledge on working with people. It has widened my horizons about the mental health and social service sector. The skills that I have garnered in PCS has helped me to better connect with the residents.” Puhal wants to do more than what she is doing now. “I wish to start conversations about the stigma our society has on people of certain demographics. I want to contribute to building an inclusive society even if it takes generations to bring upon such changes.”
Psychology Studies and Business & Social Enterprise have merged to form the new Diploma in Community Development (CDT).
