Diploma with Merit in Early Childhood Education

Passion Drives Her

“All my life, I have loved children and wanted to work with them. So when my O-level results came out, I thought that my dream had crashed,” said Raihana, who could not get into Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s Early Childhood Education (ECH) course at first.

Undeterred, Raihana applied to NP again after obtaining her Higher Nitec in Early Childhood Education from ITE. Her resilience paid off when she was accepted into her dream course in NP, and she has never looked back since.

“My three years in NP were very enriching because I learnt so much about the things that I am passionate about. I was not afraid of failing because I knew that my lecturers were always there to help and encourage me,” said Raihana who was awarded the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) training award for excelling in her studies.

Apart from learning interesting modules such as Child Health & Well-Being, Creative Arts for Young Children, and Child Assessment & Programme Evaluation, Raihana also had the opportunity to work on a research project that focused on teacher’s delivery of instructions and its influence on creativity in children. She also got to apply her knowledge and skills during her fieldwork at childcare centres.

Keen to have a head start in the early childhood education sector, Raihana has started working. She is now enjoying her dream job as a preschool teacher at My First Skool and hopes to open her own childcare centre one day. “I would like to be a motivational speaker for youths who are going through difficult times in their lives. I want to inspire them to never give up even if they had failed.”
