Thean Zhi Wei
Diploma in Banking & Financial Services*, Class of 2019
Zhi Wei participated in the PolyFinTech 100 API Hackathon competition where he created a fully functional chatbot and won the OCBC Most Applicable FinTech and Artificial Intelligence Award.
“The PolyFinTech100 API Hackathon was a very meaningful learning opportunity. The 500ml Challenge
Niki Lim, Ericka Toh, Shannon Koh, Stella Chan, Jarran Tay (Business Studies, Class of 2017)
To raise awareness of kidney health, the Business Studies students organised a campus roadshow with a health-related scavenger hunt and a healthy lifestyle pledge contest on Facebook. Just in one day, the roadshow garnered a staggering 3,198 likes on Instagram and 1,351 shares on Facebook.
“Working with external organisations like NKF showed us how real-world companies handle large scale campaigns. Unlike the relatively sheltered environment of the classroom, we were exposed to situations that required us to think on our feet and make decisions.”
Curating Real-Life Events
“Health X Heritage”, “Yuhua Through Time”, and “That 70’s Life” were events conceptualised and executed by Year 2 Tourism & Resort Management students for the integrated project in their Conventions & Events Management and Service-Learning in Action modules. They partnered the merchants’ associations in Hong Kah, Tanjong Pagar and Yuhua communities to create vibrant community spaces, by adopting different themes for learning and bonding. The integrated project gave students real-world opportunities to oversee an entire event, from inception to execution.
Industry Visits
Students from Internatonal Trade & Business visited startup companies and learned more about their business operations during an industry visit to Vietnam. Through interactions with the startup business owners, students gained greater insights into their motivations and found out what it takes to develop a creative idea into a feasible business venture. They also experienced how the companies are adapting and innovating in the areas of digitalisation and artificial intelligence.
