
The Lien Ying Chow Library occupies a central location on campus, spread over four floors of the Administration Building. It houses the Lifestyle Library on the entrance floor and the Academic Library on the other floors. Wireless access to network resources is available throughout the Library.
The Library has a collection size of 200,000 volumes of books, 10,000 ebooks, 1,100 periodicals, 12,000 e-journal titles, 26,000 AV titles, 2,700 software titles and 45 electronic database subscriptions to support the curriculum. It covers niche collections such as the Early Childhood Education Collection, International Business Collection, Chinese Studies Collection, Design Collection and the Multimedia Design and Development Collection. Other popular collections to meet social and recreational needs include a Lifestyle Collection, Board Games Collection, Music CD Collections and Feature Films Collection.
Functioning in a setting of unique design, the Library provides an aesthetically pleasing and comfortable environment for reading, study and research. It has a seating capacity for 1,358 students.
The Lifestyle Library -- the first to be opened among tertiary institutions -- focus on the lighter side of reading to promote and encourage the reading habit. Students can experience the likes of Borders, Kinokuniya, HMV, Settlers Café and the Internet Café all under one roof. There are also SCV broadcast stations to provide another dimension for students to see, hear and enjoy. These update students on current affairs through CNN, BBC, CNBC News besides ESPN, Football Channel, National Geographic, Discovery Channel and MTV Asia. Students may also view a range of Feature Films, documentaries and lifestyle videos at the Video Zone.
The Lien Ying Chow Gallery located in the Academic Library aims to inspire students to emulate the admirable qualities of one of NP’s founding fathers. There is also a collection of resources on successful Asian entrepreneurs, pioneers of Singapore, philanthropy, and the Chinese diaspora. All these are aimed at inspiring students to emulate Dr Lien’s admirable qualities such as perseverance, tenacity, philanthropy and humility, fire their spirit of entrepreneurship, and inspire them to achieve their own greatness and give back to society.
Library facilities include 35 discussion rooms for collaborative learning, study carrels, Training Rooms, Media Viewing Rooms, Board Games Room, Virtual Investment Room, Wealth Creation InfoCentre, Lien Ying Chow Gallery and Photocopying & Printing Rooms. The Library is also the first among tertiary institutions to provide both wired and wireless access for notebook computers.
