What We Do
Alpha
Centre offers robotics projects to students from the School of
Engineering. They undertake the Alpha projects as their final year
projects and participate actively in the robotic competitions locally
and overseas.
Over the past years, the students have made
remarkable achievements in these competitions. These competitions
include the Singapore Robotic Games (SRG), RoboCup Small League
Tournament, All Japan Micromouse Contest, IEEE-APEC Micromouse
Competition, and US RoboGames - Sumo Robot event.
Beside pruning
the engineering students to maximizing their potential in learning
through Alpha projects, the Centre also organizes the annual Singapore
Inter-School Micromouse Competition and Singapore RoboCup Junior 2on2
Tournament for Secondary Schools, Junior Colleges, Institute of
Technical Education campuses and amateur enthusiasts to promote
tecnologies and robotics among the young generation.
Alpha
Centre was awarded the prestigious "Excellence for Singapore Award 2000
(Organisation Award) by Singapore Totalisator Board on 4 August 2000
for our active contribution to the promotion of an awareness in
automation and mobile robotics in Singapore and the region.
In
the new millennium era, our strategic thrust will be to steer Alpha
Centre as the Centre for Intelligent Robotics. The Centre will continue
to focus on servicing students and staff in the School of Engineering
in the field of robobtics which involving multi-discipinary
technologies such as the embedded system design, artificial
intelligence, sensor fusion, machine vision and robot kinematics.
