Singapore has strongly positioned itself as a global clean and green energy hub. Its strategic and rapid move into this fast-emerging industry has caused a rapid progression in the development of clean energy. Such development in clean energy policy has attracted significant committed investment from overseas clean energy firms that amounts to billions of dollars and hence, creating many great economical advantages in the long term.
However, there are not many local installations which can attest to the clean energy applications. The Solar Technology Centre aims to serve as a good showcase of a grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) system. Five different types of PV modules are installed to provide a total of 14.2kW power to serve the Centre.
The PV modules are sponsored by EDB under the CERT programme. The performances and characteristics of the different PV modules will be studied closely over a period of time to observe the environmental effects in a tropical region.
