Since September 2008, Ngee Ann has been taking on a lead role in hosting the two-year full-time BEng (Hons) degree in Naval Architecture offered by Newcastle University, UK, under the MOE’s Polytechnic-Foreign Specialised Institution (Poly-FSI) initiative. Our Marine & Offshore Technology, Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronic Engineering graduates enjoy one-year advanced standing, enabling them to complete the three-year degree in two years. The course provides them the opportunity to progress seamlessly to a prestigious overseas degree.






With effect from the September 2010 intake, Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) will be responsible for managing the Newcastle University programme. The programme, which will continue to be conducted on Ngee Ann campus, will be expanded to include the following degree courses:

•    BEng in Marine Technology with Honours in Marine Engineering
•    BEng in Marine Technology with Honours in Naval Architecture
•    BEng in Marine Technology with Honours in Offshore Engineering

SIT was established by the Ministry of Education in 2009 to provide industry-focused university education for polytechnic graduates in partnership with the five local polytechnics and renowned overseas universities, to produce highly desired graduates for growth sectors of the economy.
 
This tri-partite partnership offers a unique model that will not only provide an additional pathway for Singaporean polytechnic graduates to pursue industry-focused degree qualifications but also offer them the opportunity to pursue the same degree at a lower overall cost as compared to pursuing the same degree programme at the home campus of the overseas universities.
 
Working closely with the Ministry of Education, various government agencies, as well as the local polytechnics on curriculum planning and admission criteria for the degree programmes, SIT will ensure that the two-year degree programmes offered will be of the same standard as in the universities’ home countries.
