With cybercrimes such as hacking and Internet hoaxes becoming quite rampant nowadays, there is a growing need to secure our computer networks. If you look forward to the challenge of making cyberspace a safer place for the universe, then enrol in the Diploma in Network Systems & Security (NSS) to get yourself armed for the battle.

Thanks to our strong partnership with Cisco Systems (USA), NSS gives you top-notch infocomm training in areas such as design, implementation, security and maintenance of network infrastructure. What’s more, you will be well prepared to obtain world-recognised certifications such as CCNP, CCNA Security, IPv6 Forum Certified Network Engineer and EC-Council Certifications.

This course will teach you all about implementing wired and wireless network solutions and securing networking devices. To begin with, you will acquire a strong foundation in computer programming and understanding digital logic and network fundamentals in your first year.

In your second year, you will learn about cloud computing, cloud storage and virtual PCs, including applications such as iCloud and Dropbox. You will also learn about the various types of network and server systems as well as network security.

In your final year, you can pursue one of the two specialisation options:

You will enhance your skills and knowledge in the areas of network infrastructure and cloud technology. This specialisation enables you to implement, monitor and maintain complex enterprise networks. You will get ample lab practice to reinforce your skills.

You will specialise in identifying vulnerabilities of networks and servers and learn how to better protect them. You will have hands-on practice in using popular forensic tools to carry out computer forensic investigations.

You will also get to hone your skills in the real world through a six-month internship or research project with national research institutes such as A*STAR and DSO National Laboratories or industry heavyweights such as IBM, Robert Bosch, NEC and Fujitsu Asia.

You will be able to choose from a wide range of jobs in the networking industry. These range from network systems design and implementation, to wired and wireless networked solutions, to systems administration and support.

You can pursue a career as a network engineer or architect, network or systems administrator, or network security specialist. You can also join the IT and infocomm sectors, with a job in the areas of data centres, network architecture or security.

As an NSS graduate, you may enjoy advanced standing when enrolling for related degree programmes at both local and overseas universities. They include:

To be eligible for consideration, candidates must have the following GCE ‘O’ Level examination (or equivalent) results.

You must also fulfil the aggregate computation requirements.

* Candidates with English as a second language must have attained a minimum grade of 6.

Candidates with severe vision deficiency should not apply for the course. Those with colour appreciation deficiency may be considered, subject to an in-house test.

Candidates who have successfully completed the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) course at ITE (for holders of Higher NITEC in relevant disciplines with a GPA of at least 3.5) or at local secondary schools will be granted exemptions for relevant modules if they pass a practical test on a module that is equivalent to their highest completed CCNA module.

^  Interdisciplinary Studies (IS) modules at Ngee Ann help students become more versatile and competitive by expanding their knowledge and skills beyond their core disciplines. Areas covered include communication, entrepreneurship, lifeskills, media and the arts, and science and technology.
@  Network Fundamentals, Routing, Local Area Networks & Wide Area Networks will help students prepare for CCNA certification (provided by external test centres).
#  Advanced Routing, Enterprise Networks and Network Maintenance & Troubleshooting will help students prepare for CCNP certification (provided by external test centres).

Students can opt to take additional modules from a wide range of clusters under the Diploma Plus Programme (DPP) to further enhance and/or broaden their knowledge in a variety of discipline-specific areas based on their interests and learning abilities. The Diploma Plus Certificate may give students a better standing for university enrolments and increase their employability in discipline-specific areas.

Students can choose the DPP clusters from the range listed below. The offer of a DPP cluster is subject to the condition that the minimum class size is met and is based on available vacancies.
