If only you could have some time to first immerse yourself in engineering, understand it, and then decide later exactly which area you would like to specialise in…

Well, now you can, with our exclusive Engineering Common Programme (ECP).

The School of Engineering offers you the Engineering Common Programme that will give you the flexibility to make your choice only at the end of the first semester. After you have a better understanding of engineering, you can choose to join one of the following engineering courses: 

Aerospace Electronics
Turbo thrust your future by getting a solid foundation in avionics. Learn the fundamentals of aerospace technology, aircraft navigation and communication systems
Aerospace Technology
The sky’s the limit – focus on design and manufacturing of aircraft components, in addition to maintenance, repair and overhaul of aircraft systems
Audio-visual Technology
Be at the heart of the media, entertainment and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions) industries as an audio technologist or an audio-video technical professional
Biomedical Engineering
Plug into the worlds of engineering and life sciences - be the bridge between these two disciplines by developing highly specialised medical devices and equipment
Electrical Engineering
Harness the power of electrical engineering, the backbone technology of diverse industries, and be trained in electrical, electronic and computer engineering
Electronic & Computer Engineering
Immerse yourself in the world of computer architecture, interface & design, and digital communication systems
Marine & Offshore Technology
Get a headstart with the only naval architecture course in Singapore for design and construction of oil rigs and ships
Mechanical Engineering
Where there is a need to invent, improve or re-design equipment in any field of technology, you will be there as a mechanical engineer

Mechatronic Engineering

Why choose ECP?
 

The Engineering Common Programme provides you with a firm foundation and an initial understanding of engineering and career options to assist you in identifying which engineering discipline is the right fit for you. During the first semester of Year 1, you will have ample time to explore the nine available diploma courses before choosing what you would like to study in the second semester^.

With such freedom and flexibility, this specially-designed programme is like no other. It is also the first of its kind to allow you to choose from a wide range of engineering courses at the end of your first semester.
 

The modules offered will not only provide you with a practice-centred foundation to engineering but will also expose you to the breadth of engineering. All modules taken in the first semester are also offered in the nine courses stated above. (A listing of the modules offered in the first semester can be found in any of the websites of the nine courses.)

During the first semester you will be taken care by the Multidiscipline Engineering Division (MDE) to help you settle into campus life. You will also have the opportunity to bond with your peers, regardless of their future area of study. You will also be able to attend a wide range of student development programmes such as Image Enhancement Workshops, Musical & Arts Appreciation, and Overseas Adventure Camps, amongst many others.

Entry Requirements  

To be eligible for consideration, candidates must have the following GCE ‘O’ Level examinations (or equivalent) results:

Subject
‘O’ Level Grade            
English 1-7 **
Mathematics (Elementary/Additional) 1-6
Science (with Physics or Chemistry or Biology component) or Design & Technology 1-6


The aggregate computation for selection is based on grades obtained for English, Mathematics, Science or Design & Technology and two other subjects.

** Candidates with English as a second language (EL2) must have attained a minimum grade of 6.

Candidates with severe vision deficiency should not apply for the course. Those with colour appreciation deficiency may be considered, subject to an in-house test.



How to apply


An example

Chuan Meng : Hey Samantha, I'm applying to study Electronic & Computer Engineering at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. How about you?
Samantha : I'm keen on Engineering too, but am not sure which course is best for me.
Chuan Meng : Then you should apply for the Engineering Common Programme (ECP) at Ngee Ann where you'll take a broad range of Engineering modules in the first semester, and then decide which area to pursue after that.
Samantha : Wow! Sounds cool! How do I apply for it?
Chuan Meng : During the Joint Admissions Exercise, just indicate the course code N71-Engineering Common Programme as your First Choice. Then you can decide after one semester which course you want to take.

If you opt for N71 as your First Choice, be sure to add a specific Ngee Ann Polytechnic engineering course as your Second Choice, so as to enhance your chance of being posted to your desired engineering course here.

4th Choice: N44 - Electronic and Computer Engineering
