Diploma in Automation & Mechatronic Systems (N50)

Giving you that something xtra

  • Learn how to combine mechanics, electronics and programming to create “smart products”

  • Explore careers in varied fields ranging from aerospace to the marine, healthcare, surgical and consumer product industries

  • A Minor in Business Management offers more exciting career and degree opportunities

About the Diploma

A bionic arm, a self-navigating submarine and an aeroplane

Bet you never knew that all these depend on the power of automation technology to function. In fact, almost every modern industry – from consumer products to marine and aerospace – is driven by this discipline.

So if you'd like to design and engineer the next generation of computer-controlled "smart" machines, then the Diploma in Automation & Mechatraonic Systems (AMS) is for you.

You will learn to develop high-tech solutions using automation and mechatronic technology for consumer products and industrial applications.

In your third year, you can choose to go on a local or overseas internship with companies such as ST Kinetics and the Data Storage Institute of Singapore. Alternatively, you can opt to take on a final-year project.

Minor in Business Management
Delivered by Ngee Ann’s School of Business & Accountancy – the most established polytechnic business school – these business modules will equip you with what you need to be an entrepreneur, manager or marketing guru. Paired with your strong foundation in engineering, this optional minor will ensure that you enjoy a far wider range of exciting career and degree opportunities!

Career Prospects

As a designer and engineer of automation systems, you will be able to make a difference in every possible industry. You can be involved in the design, development and manufacturing of “intelligent” products and systems.

You can also find jobs related to process development, process automation, engineering tests, as well as maintaining and operating high-tech equipment and facilities.

Further Studies

One great thing about the AMS curriculum is that you will be better prepared for further studies in mechanical, electrical or electronic engineering at both local and overseas universities.

Diploma Plus Programme

Students can opt to take additional modules from a wide range of clusters under the Diploma Plus Programme (DDP) to further enhance and/or broaden their knowledge in a variety of discipline specific areas based on their interests and learning abilities. The Diploma Plus Certificate helps students if they wish to pursue a university degree or increase their employability in discipline-specific areas.

Students can choose the DPP clusters from the range listed below. The offer of a DPP cluster is subject to the condition that the minimum class size is met and based on available vacancies.

Engineering ClustersNon-Engineering Clusters
*  The syllabus is based on the ‘A’ Level H2 Pure Mathematics syllabus. In consultation with NUS, NP graduates who have successfully completed the revised CAEM will be granted exemption from the NUS’ MA1301 Proficiency Test.
^  DPP cluster will not be offered to students taking the Minor in Business Management

Engineering students can also pursue Diploma Plus Certificates in Business, Innovation Management and Languages (Japanese).
