On the evening of 23rd of November, 11 NP Christian Fellowship (NPCF) students accompanied by 4 students from Nanyang Polytechnic and 2 staff workers from Fellowship of Evangelical Students went down to the Tai Seng Healthserve branch for a community engagement event.
The objective of the community engagement was to expose ourselves to understanding different cultures and perspectives of those whom we share our home with. Healthserve is a non-profit organization that reaches out to the migrant worker community through providing healthcare services as well as other services such as enrichment classes.
NPCF conducted an arts & crafts activity with the migrant workers, which involved the creation of melted crayon decorations. Prior to this activity, a staff from Healthserve orientated us and educated us better on the backgrounds of some of the migrant workers as well as the struggles they face working here in Singapore.
Through the time of crafting, the NPCF members were able to have the chance to interact with our migrant worker friends and gain better insight and understanding of their backgrounds. We got to learn of how long they have been working in Singapore as well as what life was like back in their home countries of Bangladesh and India. By the end of the night, we left with better understanding of what they had to give up to come here as well as increased gratitude towards their service for our nation.
