The School of Life Sciences and Chemical Technology, Ngee Ann Polytechnic will be organizing a
Miniature Garden Competition.
The finals for the competition will be held on the 5th & 6th of July 2010.
What is the Miniature Garden Competition?
A miniature garden is the growing of indoor plants in a container for display. The competition provides an enjoyable way for students to learn how to integrate science, design and creativity. Through the process of creating a vibrant miniature garden, your students will develop skills and knowledge of
• plant biology and characteristics
• plant selection
• plant maintenance.
They will combine this knowledge with design considerations to develop a miniature garden.
Who can participate and what is the programme?
The Miniature Garden Competition is open to all secondary pupils from secondary 1 to those undertaking their O and N levels.
Timeline
The timeline for the competition is as follows:

26th May at 10:00 am in Ngee Ann Polytechnic,
School of Life Science & Chemical Technology, Blk 83-08-0004
There will be a 1-hour preparatory workshop on the technical aspects of making a miniature garden. The required pot for making the miniature garden will be provided. Note: Although, attendance at the workshop will be useful for the students, it is not a prerequisite for their participation in the competition.
If you are unable to attend the workshop, arrangements can be made for you to collect the pot from us on a later date. Information on the workshop will be available online.

May-July 2010 Students design, develop and maintain their miniature garden.

5th July between 2:00 - 3:00pm in Ngee Ann Polytechnic LT78
Students submit their miniature gardens for judging.

6th July 2:30pm - 5:00 pm in Ngee Ann Polytechnic LT78
Competition finals with miniature gardens on display. The competition will be open to the public so do encourage your friends and students to attend.
There will also be a talk on Horticulture and Landscape Management before the announcement of winners.
Refreshment will be served.

Second Prize S$ 200
Third Prize S$ 100
Three Consolation prizes S$ 50 (each)
Singapore Garden Tech Festival
The top three winning entries will be exhibited at the prestigious Singapore Garden Festival (15-22 July 2010 ).
