Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s School of Life Sciences and Chemical Technology is once again organising a Chemical Powered Car Competition this year.
This competition requires students to construct a model car powered on chemicals. The objective of the competition will be for the car to move a set distance (at least 10 m). The car that moves closest to the set distance will win the competition. As the required distances will only be revealed on the day of the competition, the students will need to apply scientific principles in order to design the car and find out how much chemicals to use for each set distance. Through this process we hope your students will learn more about chemical engineering, chemical science and research principles.
In addition to prizes for the top 3 cars that move closest to the set distances, there will also be prizes for the Most Innovative Technology (submission of report required) and the Best Designed Car.
The competition is open to all students who will be in upper secondary school in 2011. All entries must have a car that can travel at least 10 m. Applications should be on the competition entry form.
The closing date for applications is the 30th April 2011 and the finals for the competition are scheduled for Saturday, 21st May 2011.
Please do not hesitate to contact the competition organizers, Dr. Tan Hong Kiat / Mr. Yun Chee Yong should you have any queries.
