The School of Life Sciences and Chemical Technology office is located on the 4th floor of Block 83, Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

Staff rooms are located on the 4th, 5th and 6th floor of this block.

Our laboratories are located in Block 80 and 83.

  • Can graduates proceed to further studies and what exemptions are offered by local and overseas universities?

Many of our graduates have proceeded to further studies. Indeed many are currently enrolled in or have completed post-graduate qualifications. Students can also pursue degree level studies at the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University and Singapore Management University. They may be granted up to one years' exemption.

Diploma holders typically receive up to 2 years' exemptions from Universities in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, France and the United States.

  • Are Diplomas offered on a part-time basis?
Currently the Specialist Diplomas in Applied Microbiology and Molecular Biotechnology are offered on a part-time basis. However the School does offer a number of short courses which will enable participants to upgrade their skills. Further information can be obtained from Dr. Sara Zaman .

  • Does the School accept mature age students into its courses?

Yes. Applicants who have non current 'O' level qualifications or their equivalent can make special application to apply for places in the School's Diploma courses. • Which course should I apply for?

When choosing a course to apply for you should consider your interests and what you want to do with the qualification. The Diploma in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering is well suited for students who are interested in chemistry and other sciences. As with all engineering courses, you should also have a reasonable interest in mathematics. Students who are inclined towards to engineering but at the same time appreciate science will find the course particularly interesting.

The Diploma in Landscape Design & Horticultureis suited for students who enjoy working with plants and nature. The course provides opportunities for graduates to eventually begin their own landscape business in Singapore and the region.

Students who enjoy a broad range of sciences such as chemistry, biology, aquaculture, plant science, biopharmaceuticals and drug discovery will find the  Diploma in Molecular Biotechnology  most appropriate. With a Diploma in Molecular Biotechnology, you can pursue a very wide range of careers and undertake degree programmes in a very wide range of areas.

Students who have already made up their minds about pursuing careers in medical research and the diagnosis of diseases will find the  Diploma in Biomedical Science  or Diploma in Biomedical Laboratory Technology are most appropriate.

Students who have a passion for saving the environment and finding solutions to water issues will find the Diploma in Environmental & Water Technology (EWT) interesting. Students can pursue a career in environmental science, technology and management. You should also have a reasonable interest in mathematics

If you are interested pusuing careers in chemistry, biological science or pharmaceutical science may wish to consider the Diploma in Pharmacy Science .

However do note that our Diplomas in Molecular Biotechnology, Biomedical Science, Biomedical Laboratory Technology and Pharmacy Science are modern biology courses which cover the basics in microbiology, chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, genomics, proteomics and bioinformatics and all graduates can easily move into careers in life science research.

    • a modern networked computer laboratory
    • a molecular microbiological diagnostic facility
    • an advanced surface chemistry and rheology laboratory.
    • a modern chemical engineering pilot plant.
    • a bioreactor and fermentation scale-up laboratory
    • a high tech plant tissue culture facility
    • a fully equipped instrument laboratory
    • hydroponics greenhouse
    • aquaculture unit
    • Specialised Environmental & Water Technology laboratories

Our laboratories are located in Block 80 and Block 83, Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

  • I am colour blind. I not eligible to enter similar courses at other polytechnics. Am I eligible for courses offered by your School?

For the Diploma in Environmetnal & Water Technology, candidates with hearing deficiency or severe vision deficiency should not apply for the course. Those with colour appreciation deficiency may be considered, subject to an in-house test

Students who are colour deficient or hearing impaired are eligible for application into the Diplomas of Molecular Biotechnology, Biomedical Science, Biomedical Laboratory Science, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and Pharmacy Science. Entry the our diplomas is simply based on your grades. Students with colour deficiency or who have a hearing impairment have in fact done very well in our courses with a number of students achieving medals for their academic achievements.
