The School of Life Science & Chemical Technology will be organising a lab enrichment programme for secondary school students entitled "The Science of Pharmacy - From Herbs to Drugs" . 

This enrichment programme will consist of a short lecture, explaining the process of drug discovery. 

Topics covered include how drugs are discovered, how they are screened for biological activity, how they are tested in animals and humans (clinical trials) and how they are formulated into the products that we see on the shelves of the pharmacy.

Students will have the opportunity to have hands-on activities in the laboratory. They will first test herbal extracts for biological activity, prepare aspirin by the synthetic method and finally, get the chance to formulate medicines into creams and capsules.

The programme will be conducted during the months of August and September 2009. The dates are shown below :-

20^th Aug 09 (Thur)
15^th Sep 09 (Tue)
16^th Sep 09 (Wed)
17^th Sep 09 (Thur)

The cost of each workshop is $10 per student. Students will receive a letter of participation at the end of the programme.
