Young Outstanding Singaporean Award
Congratulations to Wilson Ang (ChemEng 2001) who was honoured as a Young Outstanding Singaporean on the 5th January 2011. Wilson is a social entrepreneur and the founder of the environmental NGO, Environmental Challenge Organisation.
Ravings of a City Brat
Tan E-Jean (BIO 2000)'s article on life in Sweden is featured on the website of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO). E-Jean is currently undertaking her Ph.D. in the Lundwig Cancer Research Institute at Uppsala University in Sweden
Ideas Inc. Business Challenge
Kris Soh's (BIO 2004) In Vitro Pte Ltd was runners up in the inaugral Ideas Inc. Business Challenge which was co-hosted by NTU and Spring Singapore. In Vitro Pte Ltd's unique innovative product is Bontanicaire, a Plant in a Bottle invention that aims to reduce problems associated with sick building syndrome.

Kris has recently completed studies at the Nanyang Technological University.
2010 ASBMB Award
Wun Kwok Soon (BIO 2000) has been awarded an ASBMB Fellowship by the Australian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Kwok Soon is completing his Ph.D. in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Monash University where his research focuses on natural killer T-cells and CD1d-glycolipid recognition.

Medical School

Julian Hong (BIO 2006) has become the 10th LSCT graduate to be accepted into a medical degree programme. Julian will read medicine at Imperial College.

Moses Lok (BIO 2002) has graduated with an MBBS from the University of Western Australia. Moses was the first polytechnic graduate to be accepted directly into a medical degree programme from polytechnic diploma.

The school's first medical graduate was Dr. Ian Tang (BIO MLT Option 1995) who graduated with an MBBS from the University of Sydney in 2004. Jesmine Lee Mei Gene (BMS 2002) graduated from the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in 2009.
 

Sloan-Kettering Institute
Fong Chii Shyang (BIO 1999) has joined the Sloan-Kettering Institute in New York. He is working in Professor Meng-Fu Brian Tsou's laboratory which focuses on the role of the centrosome in cell biology and disease. Chii Shyang was previously with the London Research Institute
Fundación Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares

Kausalia Vijayaragavan (BIO 1993) is a postdoctoral researcher at Fundación Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares Carlos III in Madrid, Spain. Kausalia is in the Department of Regenerative Medicine where she works on the role of pluripotent stem cells in the regeneration of tissues and organs.

International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories

Dr. Kenneth Eng Chon Boon (BIO 1995), currently the Head of Tissue Repository and Hospital Based Cancer Registry at the National University of Singapore has been elected into the council of the International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories (ISBER). The ISBER, a Division of the American Society for Investigative Pathology (ASIP) represents over 2,000 scientists from around the world in fields of pathology, bioinformatics, and repository and specimen collection and storage.

McKinsey and Company
Sabrina Mustopo (BIO 2004) is a Junior Associate with the international management consulting firm McKinsey and Company where she specialises in Agriculture and Agribusiness. Sabrina completed her degree at Cornell University in the USA. 
Bio-Rad Laboratories

Caine Leong (BIO 1996) has been appointed as the Business Manager for Bio-Rad Laboratories for the Asia Pacific region. He is concurrently the Marketing Manager (Southeast Asia) for Bio-Rad Laboratories. Caine completed his Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Cancer Research at the National University of Singapore and has B.Sc in Biotechnology from the University of New South Wales.

Activation of Src family kinases by HIV-1 Nef

Chan Khai Chew (BIO 1998) has been awarded his Ph.D. by the University of Melbourne. Khai Chew undertook his doctoral studies at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in the Bio21 Molecular Science and Biotechnology Institute. His thesis was on the Activation of Src family kinases by HIV-1 Nef and its inhibition by Csk homologous kinase.

Protein Core Facility, USF
 

Dr. Raymond Low (BIO 1992) has been appointed the Director of the Protein Core Facility at the University of Southern Florida. Raymond completed his Ph.D. at the University of Cambridge and was previously a staff scientist at the Sanford-Burnham Institute for Medical Research in California. 

Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology
Poon Kar Lai (BIO 1994) who was recently awarded her Ph.D. from the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology was featured on IMCB's news pages. Kar Lai doctoral research was on the study of the molecular mechanisms of cardiac dysfunction using transgenic zebra fish models.
University of Queensland 

May Zhang (BIO 2008) has graduated with first class honours in Marine Biology from the University of Queensland.

VWR Singapore Pte Ltd

Mr. Seet Wing Gang (BIO 1993) has been appointed as the Senior Regulatory Analyst (Asia Pacific Region) at VWR Singapore Pte Ltd. Prior to joining VWR, Wing Gang was the Deputy Director, Evaluation Unit, Medical Device Branch at Health Sciences Authority.

BCA-Capitaland Built Environment Scholarship
 

Tan Jing Xiang (HLM silver medallist) received the "BCA-CapitaLand Built Environment Scholarship" to read Bachelor of Arts in Architecture (honours) followed by 1 year of Master studies leading to Master of Architecture at School of Design & Environment National University of Singapore.

Garvin Institute of Medical Research

Biotechnology graduates Yvonne Ng and Tan Shi-Xiong have joined Professor David Jame's Laboratory at the Garvin Insitute of Medical Research in Sydney Australia. As post-doctoral fellows, they are investigating how phosphorylation regulates the transport of proteins to the plasma membrane. Yvonne and Shi-Xiong completed the undergraduate studies and Ph.Ds at the University of New South Wales.

   MOH Scholarship
 

Ms Neo Jia Wei (BMS 2009) received an MOH Cluster Health and Nursing Scholarship. She will be studying Podiatry in Australia.
