EWT students accepted as Special Programme students at AIT, Thailand |
|
Michelle Yap Yee Ting and Wong Zhun Siong (EWT 3) have been accepted as Special Program Students in the Environmental Engineering and Management (EEM) Programme of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand for a period of six months from 4 March – 3 August 2013.
Michelle's and Zhun Siong's internship at AIT will include participation in research projects on the "Development of High Rate Thermophilic Anaerobic Membrane Bioreactors" and the "High Strength Wastewater Treatment using Membrane Distillation Bioreactors" under the supervision of Prof. C. Visvanathan. They will work closely with the EEM graduate students during their internship. |

Muhammad Haniff B Mohamad S and Muhammad Haziq B Rusli (VBS 3) won the Best Project Award at NP PSRP for the project entitled" Characterization of Mutant RUNX1 found in Breast Cancer".

|
Bryan Quek Wei Hong (EWT 3) presented a paper on "Development and Evaluation of a Simple, Portable and Low-cost Adsorbent for Removal of Arsenic from Drinking Water" at the 2nd Water Research Conference, Singapore organised by the International Water Authority (IWA) and Elsevier Publishers.

|
Bryan Quek Wei Hong (EWT 3) and alumni Tio Wee (EWT) & Chua Wan An (BME) presented a paper entitled "Development and Validation of a Starch-based Analyser for Iodine in Drinking Water" at the International Congress on Chemical, Biological and Environmental Sciences(ICCBES 2013) in Taipei, Taiwan on 8th January 2013.

|
Third year EWT student and 2012 Bayer Young Environmental Envoy (BYEE) Law Yu Hui and her winning 'Floating Wetlands' project were featured in several international and national articles such as Bangkok Post (Thailand), The Star (Malaysia), Berita Harian, Eco-Business.com(Singapore) and TUNZA the UNEP magazine for Youth.

Student Innovation featured in New Paper |
|
Bryan Quek Wei Hong (EWT 3) was featured in the New Paper on the 8th January 2013. Bryan's innovation to remove arsenic (a toxic substance) from groundwater is designed to be low-cost, efficient, portable and therefore easily deployable, and overcomes the drawback of generation of bulky toxic waste. Bryan's work was presented at the 2nd Water Research Conference organised by the International Water Association (IWA) and Elsevier Publishers in January 2013. The article was part of a series to showcase achievements of polytechnic students in Singapore

Publication in Artificial Cells, Nanamedicine and Biotechnology |
|
Ng Kia Yi (BMS 3) published a paper entitled "Swine Hemoglobin as a potential source of artificial oxygen carriers, hemoglobin-vesicles" in the journal Artificial Cells, Nanomedicine and Biotechnology. This work was done during her internship with Dr .Sakai at the Waseda Bioscience Research Institute In Singapore. She is currently Sir Gareth Roberts Memorial Scholarship holder.
