Introductory sessions (new Students)
The Library conducts Orientation sessions to introduce the library’s facilities, resources and services to all new students. These sessions are intended to help you find your way around the Library and optimise on the use of resources. These sessions are conducted through a variety of approaches – talks, library amazing race activities or the e-learning to fit in with the needs of the Schools.
The Library also provides “Survivor Cyberworld Challenge” to equip the student with information research skills.
This is incorporated in IS module, “Communication Toolkit”.
Information Research Skills sessions These cover skills to find relevant information from printed and electronic resources using OPAC, Web and electronic databases. These lifelong skills will be able to see students through their information needs not only in NP but also equip them with skills to keep up-to-date in the knowledge-based economy.
Lecturers may request for sessions customized to the needs of specific modules. This makes learning more effective as students find immediate application to the information retrieved.
There is also a choice of holding the sessions face-to-face, or through an activity based approach, or even infuse relevant information skills into their modules.
E-Learning Support Reference librarians also prepare Databases Quick Guides & Demos
to facilitate “just-in-time learning”. These are posted on the Library Home Page. The Quick Guides illustrate graphically the approaches to searching specific databases. The online demos of databases enable us record live the search process within specific databases. These have been effective in enabling users to refresh themselves over specific approaches for searching at the time of need.
