STOP! (STOP THE OUCH PLEASE!) CAMPAIGN

STOP! stands for Stop the Ouch, Please!

The acronym was coined by students Grace Yow and Denise Wong, and it refers to a public education initiative by students, for students. Its main goal is to spark a social movement for raising awareness about relationship-based violence. Stop! Lunchtime Programmes in NP campus featured Stop! campaign activities including concerts, skits, talks, exhibitions and fund raisers.

Venue: Ngee Ann Polytechnic
Dates: 4 - 6 November 2009

Time: 1200 - 1300hrs

Registration: Stop! campaign activities and details for the STOPMotion! Competition are available here. The competition was open for individual and team (max. 4 pax) entries from junior colleges, tertiary/private institutions and secondary schools.

WORDS IN ACTION

Students were eager to participate in a meaningful event that would include more than just dialogue sessions. With mere dialogue sessions, they felt that after the crowds had dispersed and the initial enthusiasm had subsided, nothing concrete would have been achieved. Students knew that they could do more for the Stop! campaign.

They believed that:

- A flicker of awareness is a tiny step towards the full flame of knowledge, and that it empowers an individual to protect himself against any future abuse.

- An inch of understanding gained is an inch closer to establishing effective intervention programmes.

- A dollar raised is a dollar more for the VWOs battling to help victims out there.

To put the above words into action, 11 students on the Women’s Worth Conference Executive Committee worked with 30 other student leaders to organise this multi-faceted S.T.O,P! Campaign.

BUY A SHIRT; HELP TO HEAL

Stop! Campaign T-shirts were sold to help to make a difference in the lives of those who may be less fortunate than. All proceeds from the sales of the T-shirts will be donated to the Centre for Promoting Alternatives to Violence (PAVe). This project was initiated and ran by the Innovation and Enterprise in Action students from the School of Interdisciplinary Studies.
