On 27 January 2010, the Singapore Book of Records certified a giant Yakult bottle measuring 1.67 metres as Singapore's Largest Yakult Bottle.
The giant artefact was designed and created by Ngee Ann Poly students for their I&E in Action project.
In building the giant artefact, students glued about 3,200 Yakult bottles supplied and sponsored by Yakult Singapore. |

The project started in the 3rd quarter of 2009, when a group of students embarked on an ambitious idea of constructing the largest possible Yakult bottle for their IEA (Innovation & Enterprise in Action) module, under the Environment pathway.
The students used this I&E project as an opportunity to increase environmental awareness and conservation.
They decided to use recycled materials to create an innovative, bold artefact. | For about 3 months, the students conceptualised and assembled their artefact. Accurate measurements were done to ensure the full-sized Yakult model was of correct proportions. They then built the mammoth art-piece by sticking small Yakult bottles together with glue. The bottle structure was assembled layer by layer to ensure optimum stability. LED lights were installed inside the sculpture to illuminate it as a captivating art piece.
The completed giant Yakult bottle was showcased as an exhibit at the Ngee Ann Polytechnic Atrium from 25-27 Jan 2010. Passers-by were enthralled by the marvellous art-piece which became a popular photo-taking icon.
On the day of the exhibition, the I&E students also sold Body Shop products, besides Yakult drinks, to raise funds for World Vision, a non-profit charitable organization. |
