1. What is the Ngee Ann Preparatory Programme (NPP)?
The Ngee Ann Preparatory Programme is an 8-week programme for students who were successful in the Direct Polytechnic Admissions (DPA).
One of the advantages of being in this programme is that students are able to get a head start. They will get to do three to five modules ahead of their peers who enter NP in the April semester. Students will be granted exemptions for these modules when the semester begins and this will free them to further develop themselves through Co-Curriculum Activities (CCAs) and enrichment programmes.
Students will also attend a compulsory 4D3N overseas leadership training programme in a neighbouring country in the last week of the NPP. This leadership programme is currently fully-funded by the polytechnic.
2. When does NPP begin?
Typically, NPP begins in mid-January annually, immediately following the release of the O-level results.
The NPP will kick off with 2 to 3 days of Residential orientation programme. During this period, students will lodge at one of our fully furnished apartments ( TheLoft@94 ), a walking distance from the campus.
NPP lessons will begin after the orientation and end around mid-March, before the NP April semester starts.
NOTE: In order to enjoy the benefits of this programme, you are strongly advised to make holiday plans after the second week of March.
3. Where can I get details about the Orientation?
Orientation usually begins on Wednesday, right after the release of the O-level results. If the student meets the Ministry of Education’s eligibility criteria for DPA (for more information, please see: http://moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/dpa/criteria/ ), he/she will receive a letter from us after the release of the O-level results. In this letter, we will inform the student about
the orientation schedule and the packing list.
Alternatively, the student can get details via the NPP Facebook as well.
4. What if a student is unwell and cannot attend the Orientation?
The student should call the School of Interdisciplinary Studies at 64608376 on the first day of orientation and personally submit his/her medical certificate to the administration office located at Blk 53, #05-01 when he/she returns to school.
5. Are all NPP lessons compulsory?
Yes, they are.
6. What is GPA?
The modules taken will be graded and will be computed as part of every student’s Grade Point Average (GPA).
For more information on GPA, please refer to: http://www.np.edu.sg/aa/grade/Pages/exam_credit.aspx
7. Do I need a laptop for NPP?
Students do not need to bring a laptop to class, However, they are required to have access to a computer and Internet at home to complete certain assignments.
Students can choose to purchase laptops, that are fully installed with the necessary software, in early April when there is a computer fair on campus.
8. Where will the Overseas Leadership Programme be held?
The Overseas Leadership Programme is usually held in a neighbouring country. As the destination choice may change from time to time, students will be informed in January.
9. What if I want to withdraw from DPA?
Students who meet the Minimum Entry Requirements have the privilege of being NP students immediately after their O-level results are released. NP's courses are highly competitive and successful DPA candidates do not have to compete with JAE applicants for a vacancy. If a successful DPA student chooses to withdraw from the DPA programme after successful admission, he/she is depriving another student a chance to be enrolled in the DPA.
We strongly discourage withdrawal from the programme.
