Designing Promotional Materials This module introduces you to the pertinent aspects of developing effective promotional materials, from planning and strategy to conceptualisation and creative execution. Through this module, you will acquire a basic understanding of copywriting and visual design. One of the assignments you will be asked to embark on includes developing a set of promotional materials and making a short presentation based on a given brief.
Events Communication In this module, you will learn how to develop events-management proposals, including communication media plans and working timelines for organising events. There will be opportunities for experiential learning through class excursions and major events. The process of writing proposals for events will help you develop creative conceptualisation and bring together design elements to support your event, including strategising media communication.
Human Communication Successful communication starts with oneself. From an understanding of self and inner speech, this module moves in widening circles to communication patterns in interpersonal, family, group and organisational contexts. The approach is experiential and encourages participation in activities, games, role play and case analyses. The aim is to communicate effectively in your personal and professional life.
Online Communications Campaigns (not offered in AY 09/10) This module will equip you with a working knowledge of web-based communication interfaces. You will explore various strategies involved in the design of online campaigns and use them to develop an integrated online communications campaign for different purposes and audiences.
Corporate Communication Nike. Levi’s. Apple. Coca Cola. How do these companies stay on top of consumer consciousness? Can companies bounce back after times of crisis? This module will help you find the answers to these questions and more! Unlock the success secrets of the world’s biggest brands. Learn how companies shape and communicate their corporate image and identity through branding and corporate citizenry. At the same time, develop the skills to effectively position a company through strategies and communication material to keep ahead of the competition.
Technical Writing (not offered in AY 09/10) As you step out to work, be prepared to write technical documents such as manuals, procedures, proposals, brochures and web pages. You will get a headstart with this module, which guides you through audience analysis, the writing process, editing, proofreading and reviewing your own work as well as designing and presenting your documents.
2. Life Skills
Life Skills modules give you the edge by providing insights into human and group behaviour and helping you develop interpersonal skills. Effective Negotiation You negotiate all the time. You do it at home, at a shopping sale and at work. For some, this is easy, but for others, negotiation is a source of conflict to be resisted and avoided. Knowing the art of negotiation enables you to influence the negotiation process, steering it towards your goals. Experiential and interactive activities help you acquire negotiation skills to shape the entire negotiation process and turn objections into opportunities.
Effective People Management What is the most important single ingredient in the formula for success? It is knowing how to get along with people. Come on this learning journey that will change your perspective of the people you meet each day. You will be equipped with concepts and skills that enable you to influence others positively, add value to teams and handle difficult people. Ethical Dilemmas Is the death penalty ever fair? Are we justified in eating animals? Does a human embryo have rights? What makes right or wrong, and why should we act ethically anyway? Ever so often, it’s difficult to make the right choice. In this module, you will use your moral compass to navigate the real world of ethical choices. You will hone your skills of reasoning, argument and decision-making as we explore ethical issues from school, work, home and beyond. Living in the Information Era The newly-emerging information society is impacting people all over the world. Knowledge, skills, and creativity are key assets for individual success. This module looks at various issues pertaining to the impact of information technology on work, education, intellectual property, privacy, ethics and security. You will also learn to participate effectively in online collaboration using Wiki. Put together, the lessons learnt in this module will equip you with the awareness to help you cope better in the information era.
Mind Quest for Excellence This module is based on Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) - the psychology of excellence and the technology of achievement. Your NLP learning journey will enable you to have a deeper understanding of how your mind (neuro) and daily language (linguistic) influence your behaviour. You will also acquire the skills and techniques to help you reprogramme yourself to attain exceptional results in your lives. Art of War: Leadership & Business This module provides an insight into Sun Zi’s military principles and their modern-day application to corporations and business. You will learn to apply these principles to personal and leadership development and build a conceptual framework of management approaches. The aim is to promote the spirit of entrepreneurship and develop analytical thinking about competitive strategies.
Personal Fitness Management This module aims to enhance knowledge and understanding of personal fitness and training. You will learn basic fitness regime design and implementation of fitness programmes for individuals and groups. You will be also exposed to the fundamentals of exercise and fitness conditioning, exercise prescription and execution of proper techniques. Upon signing up for this module, you will be required to take the NAPFA test. This module is not for students who have been exempted from NAPFA. 3. Entrepreneurship
Driven by globalisation, today's business environment is changing at a dizzying pace and throwing up many challenges to professionals. These modules help you develop the skills needed to compete in this environment.
Business and the Economy 
Learn to explain, in economic terms, why “there is no such thing as a free lunch” and understand what the following statement means: “The economy shrank in the last quarter and forecast to contract the following year, with a possible drop in consumer prices, prompting a one-off currency devaluation.” This module explains the fundamentals of the business unit as well as the economy. You will learn how to assess economic performance as well as evaluate the impact of government policies.
Fast Startup through Franchising (not offered in AY 09/10)
What do McDonald’s and Ya Kun Kaya Toast have in common? Yes! They are both franchise concepts. McDonald’s is the pioneer of franchising from the USA and Ya Kun Kaya is Singapore’s successful franchise chain. You could be an entrepreneur by simply being a franchisee or if you were more ambitious, you could start a business that eventually owns a franchise brand globally. This module gives you sufficient knowledge to embark on a franchising career.
Insight into the Tourism Industry F1…IR…YOG…..it’s all happening!! Take a glimpse into the dynamics of the tourism scene. Gain insights into the various tourism sectors such as travel, hospitality, MICE (Meetings, Incentive travel, Conventions, Exhibitions), food and beverage, and tourism organizations (e.g. Singapore Tourism Board). Learn about the impact the tourism industry causes, how a destination markets itself, and the services the tourism sectors create to bring about the much sought-after experience. You might want to be a part of the excitement at the end of the course!
Investing in the Stock Market Which markets do bulls, bears and stags go? The stock market of course! Clueless about these terms to describe various investors? Enroll in this module and unravel the complexities of the stock market to understand the fundamentals and technicals which drive the markets. You may not be able to trade like Warren Buffett at the end of this module, but we can certainly set you on the road to becoming a more knowledgeable and financially savvy investor.
Introduction to Financial Services (not offered in AY 09/10) This module will introduce you to the financial sector in Singapore and the roles, functions and services provided by the different financial institutions and markets, with emphasis on those that are relevant to an entrepreneur. You will learn about the various products and services offered by the financial sector and the different sources of financing available for starting and expanding a business.
4. Arts and Media
Learn about the impact of the arts and media on an individual and the world. The modules in this category offer you insights into print and broadcast media, visual art, photography, film and music.
Appreciating Artwork This module aims to give you an overall appreciation of various art forms. You will interpret paintings from around the world and learn about major periods in the history of art in Western and Eastern civilisations.
Understanding the Media
What do Paris Hilton, Fann Wong, President Barack Obama and Mr. Lee Kuan Yew have in common? They are all dependent on media processes which shape political and social communication. This invigorating module introduces different forms and functions of media, its roles and effects, and the main concepts in understanding how media affect and influence its audiences. At the end of the module, you will be able to analyze popular media content and appreciate how media exert influences on audiences. Introduction to Marketing Communications (not offered in AY 09/10) The module explains the purpose of the different marketing communications tools and highlights how these tools are implemented by real businesses. You will conduct a market analysis and be challenged to come up with an integrated marketing communications strategy for a local brand.
5. Science and Technology
Every day, we see huge advances in science and technology that have huge implications for the world around us. Our modules help you keep pace with these latest changes and to understand the impact of these new developments on us.
The World of Aerospace  This module highlights the development of the aerospace industry in Singapore and its future prospects and challenges. You will gain a broad perspective of the fundamental applications of aerospace technology, with emphasis on the local aerospace industry and its related socio-economic issues. You will also learn the basic principles of flight, appreciate the fundamentals of aircraft systems and understand how aviation regulators around the world make flying the safest mode of travel.
Home Electricity  This module aims to provide you with a basic understanding of how electricity is distributed in a house, how it can be handled safely and how to conserve energy. Lessons are complemented with hands-on sessions where you will acquire the skills to perform basic troubleshooting on simple home lighting and power circuits.
Mobile Robotics  This module will cover the fundamental concepts, hardware elements and software control of an autonomous mobile robot. It will also focus on the construction of a simple navigating robot and the control of its basic movement. You will use Lego construction bricks for fast prototyping with programmes written in MindStorm. A robot competition will be held for all students at the end of the module.
PC Technology  This module will provide you with a basic understanding of the rapid changes in PC Technology. The syllabus is designed to largely overlap with the popular A+ Certification programme in the United States. Upon completion of the module, you will be prepared to take the A+ Certification tests and gain additional certification recognition.
Eco-Efficiency for Profit This module shows how eco-efficiency helps organisations expand income and reduce operating costs and ecological harm. In this module, you will evaluate eco-efficiency technologies and techniques applied in manufacturing. You will also explore eco-efficiency innovations in products and services through video reviews and case-study analysis.
