 LEVEL 1 IS MODULES

Level 1 IS modules aim to develop communication skills, enhance creativity and critical thinking about
community issues. The modules are:

FIRST YEAR PRESCRIBED MODULES

Sports And Wellness
This module helps you to learn a sport as a recreational activity to keep you fit and healthy. Team building and collaboration skills are developed as you network with other students. There are a total of 19 sports electives to choose from: Aerobics, Badminton, Basketball, Cheerleading, Dance Movement, Dancesport, Flag Football, Hip Hop, Life Saving / Swimming, Netball, Orienteering, Street Soccer, Soccer, Softball, Tennis, Touch Rugby, Volleyball, Wellness Programme and Yoga. Outstanding students are awarded a Pass with Merit.

Idea Jumpstart
This module aims to facilitate student self-discovery of inventiveness, and inspire and encourage creative and innovative thinking through a host of highly participative and engaging activities. The module culminates in a full-day breakout session where students are involved in a competitive challenge to showcase their original ideas and confidence in pitching to an audience.

Communication & Contemporary Issues
Many people fear public speaking more than spiders and heights. This module helps you
pick up skills to express yourself confidently and effectively, both orally and in writing. At the same time, you will develop greater awareness of yourself in relation to the world around you by exploring a wide range of contemporary and community issues. From the shop-till-you-drop consumer culture, to racial prejudice and considering what it means to be a global citizen, there is always something to enrich the class!

General English
If you are an international student who needs help with spoken and written English, this module is for you. You will build confidence in spoken English and be equipped with basic writing skills to support your studies. You’ll also have the chance to think critically about social issues in Singapore, exchange views and practise your use of the language in class.

Exploring Contemporary Issues (For FMS and PCS Students)
To be a media or psychology professional par excellence, you will need a good grasp of contemporary issues. Avoid the frog-in-the-well syndrome; free your mind as you hone your craft through critical and horizontal thinking in a media-rich environment of thought-provoking movies, documentaries and news.

CQ at Work
Be sensitised to the challenges of interacting, living and working in the global workplace. Through experiential and learner-centred methodologies, this module facilitates development of multiple perspectives and adaptation skills. The take-away is a mindset ready to collaborate with people from diverse backgrounds.
