iNotes Builder Rapid e-learning authoring tool for producing and publishing e-learning curriculum content in an instructionally sound, cost effective and efficient approach with no programming skills required - thus allowing lecturers to rapidly author e-learning content. iNotes builder utilizes a multi-level Extensible Markup Language (XML)-based wizard which systematically steps a user through the design, build and launch phases to rapidly generate meaningful units of learning. The Flash WYSIWYG (“What You See is What You Get”) template design tool facilitates XML export of content, the drag and drop of rich-media learning object elements such as video, audio, animation and graphic as well as the ability to customize templates from a creative library of animated skin effects. Output in SCORM compliant Flash packages ensures that users can produce browser independent, trackable content without specialist programming and authoring knowledge. iGames builder offers an innovative approach to rapidly produce multimedia educational games from a library of templates. This solution seeks to augment teaching practice with fun, competitive gaming experiences which motivate, challenge and teach iMC piloted the DREAM e-book for students from two diploma programmes, Diploma in Pharmacy and Diploma in Real Estate Business. The overall satisfaction rate for the software is 80%. DREAM is a Web 2.0 rich internet application e-book which empowers students to manage their learning materials and actively participate in the learning process by collaboratively constructing and aggregating new knowledge, ideas, perspectives, reflections, micro learning experiences with peer learners. It is envisioned as a future interface for MeL, NP’s Learning Management System, whereby course materials, information and updates are delivered to learners within an integrated collaborative environment. DREAM sports a clean, stylish Web 2.0 interface which is set to appeal to our next generation learners and invite a reappraisal of traditional notions of didactic learning. Location-based Mobile Learning iMC conceptualised and developed a location-based (GPS) pocket PC prototype for the Diploma in Horticulture & Landscape Management (HLM) which was showcased at the official launch ceremony of Ngee Ann’s adoption of Clementi Woods Park on 19 December 2007. It was a pilot initiative to deliver selected topics of the Diploma in HLM curriculum on pruning and plant maintenance through an exploratory and interactive location-based learning approach. Going forward, iMC will be working with lecturers from the Diploma in HLM to conceptualise, design and develop new mobile-learning applications including a plant resource directory cum micro-blog, mobile quiz system and plant diagnostic toolkit. Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) Translator and Medical Calculator Applications The education of health care professionals in the context of Singapore’s rapidly changing health care system is a key example of how the mobility of learners within the diversity of real life clinical learning environments has posed increasing challenges and where mobile technologies have the vast potential to support and enhance teaching and learning. An innovative Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) translator application was developed by iMC for use in the Diploma in Health Sciences (Nursing) programme. Through the use of this application, nursing students will be able to translate commonly used medical phrases in various languages and dialects, thus enhancing their learning experience during clinical attachments and boosting the image of the nursing profession. A Medical Calculator application was also developed to help nursing students compute useful formulas and equations. Management in Training (MINT) Courseware iMC is engaged in the development of customised e-learning courseware for the MINT programme in the areas of HR, Finance and OD. The first HR courseware on recruitment process and interviewing techniques has been completed and rolled-out in Dec 2008. User feedback has been strongly positive. On-going/upcoming projects include Staff Development Programme (HR), Appreciation of Financial Management and Procedures, Control and Accountability and Best Financial Practices (FIN) and Institutional and Academic Quality (OD).
