Ngee Ann partners Microsoft to build a wider pool of mobile app developers

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between NP and Microsoft Singapore on Thursday, 13 Oct 2011 to build up the pool of mobile application developers in Singapore.

Ngee Ann will rope in experts from Microsoft to further strengthen the Mobile Business Application specialization option offered under its Diploma in Information Technology programme. The inputs will be used to update the content of the Mobile Applications Development module to include the latest tools used to develop mobile applications based on the Windows Phone 7 operating system.

Microsoft will also conduct guest lectures for Mobile Business Application students and provide hardware resources such as Windows Phone 7 devices to enable them to deploy and test their mobile applications.

Microsoft will also sponsor graduation prizes to recognise academic excellence in Mobile Business Application.

Thanking Microsoft for its support, Ms Angela Wee, the Director of Ngee Ann’s School of InfoComm Technology, said: “With Microsoft firmly behind us, we look forward to further enhancing our curriculum to reflect the latest technological updates and industry requirements. This will better prepare our students for their careers and boost the talent pool in the country.”

“This partnership with Ngee Ann Polytechnic takes us a step deeper to having direct impact from IHLs on initiating the Mobile Business Application (MBA) specialization, with Microsoft taking on an advisory role and capacity in advising on the design, development, delivery, positioning and marketing of the MBA specialization,” said Jessica Tan, Managing Director of Microsoft Singapore.

Microsoft is also working with the School of InfoComm Technology to groom infocomm sales and marketing professionals to address the shortage of these specialists in the IT industry under an earlier MOU signed in 2009.  The School is the pioneer to spearhead the training of students in the space of the specialized high-value domain of infocomm sales & marketing.

The first group to benefit from the MOU on the mobile technology and applicaiton development are Year 2 students who will begin to specialize in the Mobile Business Application option of the Diploma in Information Technology (IT) in the second semester of the current Academic Year which begins on 17 Oct 2011.  The students will also be  exposed to other mobile devices and operating systems such as iOS and Android.  In the School, we encourage our students to develop innovative robust mobile applications for commercialization on Microsoft Marketplace, Apple App Store and Android Market.

We had a similar MOU with Microsoft in 2009 for our Infocomm Sales & Marketing for our Diploma in IT Infocomm Sales & Marketing (iSnM) specialization.  Our School is the pioneer in education of iSnM and remains the only school doing this.
