Since 2007, the polytechnics in Singapore have allowed students to apply for a place in a course of their choice through the Direct Poly Admission exercise even before they take the "O" levels.
For its part, Ngee Ann's School of InfoComm Technology has attracted a good pool of highly motivated and talented students for its three courses: Diploma in Information Technology, Diploma in Multimedia & Animation, and Diploma in Financial Informatics.
A recent survey asked these students for their impression of ICT and the learning experiences they've gone through. Here's a sample of the findings:
"It's a fun and lively place. We're expected to behave like young adults, and from day 1 we found ourselves shouldered with greater responsibilities." - Patricia Andrea Koswanto, DPA 2007 "ICT provides an extremely conducive environment for studies." - Foong Jing Fang, DPA 2008
"I'm impressed. Facilities are state-of-the-art and within easy reach." - Lim Chin Wee, DPA 2007
"We particularly enjoyed the field trips. They gave us an insight on how various companies from different industries operate and compete in the market." - Sia Wei KIat DPA 2007, Eric Lee Zheng Xian, DPA 2008
"I've learned a lot here. Most valuable skills I picked up are thinking creatively and how to be a good leader." - Yong Shan Xian, DPA 2008
"The Poly Preparatory Programme was very effective. It helped us get accustomed quickly to poly life in Ngee Ann".
- Chan Jia Wen, DPA 2008, Ow Yun Da, DPA 2008
