Mobile e-Learning for School of Health Sciences (PDA)

Dear incoming Year Twos (Cohort 08),

Congratulations! The School of Health Sciences is moving to using personal digital assistants (PDAs) for Mobile e-Learning. All HS students will own a PDA for their lessons and clinical practicum.

The School has appointed HP as its vendor. HP will offer the HP iPAQ 112 with 2GB SD memory card, screen protector, and three year pick-up-and-return warranty at approximately $550. The PDA comprised of a drug database, a medical dictionary, a laboratory and diagnostic tests guide, a diseases and disorders guide, clinical elogbook, translator, and many other software. The PDA will be incorporated into on-campus lessons as well as during clinical attachments.

Sale of pda will roll out in mid April 09. Stay tuned for more details.

If students want to buy their own PDA, they will have to purchase their own software and pay more than $1000. In addition, the PDA must have no phone and camera features and be able to run Windows Mobile 6.0 version. If students buy a wrong model, they will have to repurchase a correct model.

Students with financial difficulties, you may qualify for the Financial Assistance Schemes (FAS) for PDA. Please send the completed form with proof of your household income (e.g. photocopies of latest salary slips, letters from employer or income tax returns of your family members) by hand to the Student Services Office (Blk 4 #01-07). Please do this during the month of Jan 09. Please ensure that the completed form and the income documents are stapled together.
