At the School of Health Sciences, we aim to provide the best training for our students to step into their all-important profession as nurses. In addition to a sound and practical curriculum in school, we also pushed our students into the industry on practical training with their potential employers. We are looking at three prongs of approach when it comes to preparing our students to enter the Healthcare industry.
Clinical Attachment (CA): Our students are exposed to the various nursing paths while still with us. As students, they will enter day rehab centres, hospitals, community hospitals, specialist hospitals etc. Going on their rounds in their CAs, our students will learn about the very diverse professions that they will be stepping into and also learnt about how to deal with their future patients and employers.
Professional Affiliation: Our education is endorsed by the Singapore Nursing Board. This endorsement meant that our graduates will all be Registered Nurses. In addition, we also encourage our students to join the Singapore Nurses Association (SNa) or join the Ngee Ann Polytechnic Chapter of the SNa while they are still students. Through these associations, we hope they will learn to establish their professional networks even before they enter their industry.
Alumni Networks: We are deeply cognizant that perhaps the most valuable resources to us as a school is the ever growing pool of graduates that we produced. Our alumni may provide helpful advices to their juniors or even guide them along as they first enter their profession. In fact, there is a possibility that the most entrepreneurial of our graduates may become employers themselves and this will serve as a wonderful network where our present students can tap on.
