The Academic Schools in Ngee Ann offer a variety of workshops, talks and activity-related programmes for schools. Conducted upon request, the programmes are subject to availability of staff and labs, and can be customised for groups. A fee may be charged for some programmes.

Business & Accountancy

Law & Order – The Cyberway
A fun 2-hour program involving a visit to an interactive multimedia thematic display put up by final year Diploma in Business Information Technology students on the ethical and legal issues on the use of IT, especially issues thrown up by emerging Web 2.0 technology like YouTube, Facebook, Wikipedia, etc. The display will explore issues like music downloads, cybercrimes, online privacy and security. Participants will be engaged through quizzes, games and blogging together with student leaders, the BA Envoys. 

Money $mart Teens (Mo$T)
A 1-hour talk on the importance of saving and how to avoid danger of overspending. A 1-hour talk on the importance of saving and how to avoid danger of overspending.

$mart Money Management
A half-day workshop to understand the fundamentals of money management, budgeting, spending and saving.

My Tax Adventure @NP 
A half-day workshop to explore Singapore’s tax system and discover basic concepts of taxation. 

Introduction to M.Y.O.B.
A half-day laboratory session on using this software to record journal transactions and prepare simple financial statements.

DIAL (Discover Accounting as a Life skill)
A 1-hour laboratory session cum talk on basic budgeting concepts.  

Financial Reporting Over the Web
A 1.5-hour talk on using XBRL (Extensible Business Reporting Language) for financial reporting on the Web. 

Entrepreneurship Alliances Programme
This 1-day workshop is designed to cultivate the spirit of entrepreneurship in students and provide assistance to secondary schools to set up their own entrepreneurship clubs. There is a follow-up mentorship for 2 months, each session lasting 2 hours weekly.

Spotting $$ Opportunities
Students will learn how to generate business ideas by turning opportunities into feasible businesses after attending this 1.5-hour talk cum workshop. They will learn different idea generation techniques, creativity and innovation.

Branding Yourself
Participants acquire simple branding and marketing principles and learn how to apply these concepts to more effectively market themselves. Participants will learn how to 'package' themselves to project their desired images to their friends, parents, teachers and future employers.

Finding Your Career Fit
Students attending this 1.5-hour talk cum workshop will be introduced to the concept of career planning. Good career choice outcomes should produce  a series of positions which give us opportunities for good performance, make us committed to our chosen field  and give us high work satisfaction. This talk cum workshop will introduce some existing instruments that can help students discover which careers provide the best match for their skills.

Do you have EQ (E-Quotient)?
Students after attending the 1.5-hour talk cum workshop will learn how to manage their emotions and the way they relate to others at home and with friends.  It will help them deepen connections at three levels:  with themselves (personal mastery), with another person (one-to-one), and within groups/teams.

Dealing with Strangers
This talk cum workshop gives an overview on the importance of understanding non-verbal behavior and also addresses some of the ways to develop cross-cultural literacy. Participants will learn why people often perceive and react differently to common issues. Often, the root cause of this can be traced back to cultural differences.

Monopoly Challenge
A half-day workshop where participants get to be property tycoons for a day and experience property investment through games.

Mapping, Landscaping & Topography
Students get the chance to be a Land Explorer and conquer new territories. They will "discover" and "stake" their land - navigate and plot land co-ordinates using latest technology."

For Upper Secondary School Students:

The Science of S.A.L.T. (Sound, Air, Light, Temperature)
A 3-hour workshop to learn about environmental quality control with participation in an Amazing Race to measure air quality.

NEWater & Water Treatment
A half-day laboratory session on NEWater to learn how water is analysed in the Water Technology Lab.

Electrical
Exploring Basic Electric Circuits
Learn more about volts, amperes and ohms. A 2-hour laboratory session where students explore the relationships between potential difference, current flow and resistance in series and parallel circuits.

Home Electricity Supply
Ever wonder how our electricity supply system works? In this laboratory session, students will discover how the fluorescent light works, the types of cables used and how electricity is monitored and measured in our homes. Students will learn the correct way to connect a three-pin plug.

‘Seeing’ Electricity Using the Oscilloscope
We cannot see electricity, we can only feel and hear its effects. Using an oscilloscope, students get to ‘see’ electricity and understand its properties. Students will also get to discover the difference between the electricity from a battery and the electricity that lights up our homes.

Interactive and Fun Science Experiments using LabVIEW
Students will be taught how to create interactive and fun science experiments using LabVIEW (a graphical programming language).

Fun with Logic Circuits
Discover the behaviour of the basic building blocks of a digital circuit – the AND, OR, NAND, NOR and NOT gates. Have fun conducting tests on logic circuits; LDR (light-dependent resistor), relay and transistor included.

Motors and Electro-Magnetism
Discover how principals of electro-magnetism learn in the classrooms are put to practical use in DC motors, transformers and other industrial and home applications. Students will get to build a simple DC motor.

Electrifying Connections
Students learn to design and connect battery-operated circuits (series and parallel) to operate lights, alarms and mini-fans in various ways. There are practice levels of increasing difficulty to help challenge students’ skills and knowledge, and to encourage them to discover the versatility and importance of electricity in our everyday lives.

Musical Fountain Workshop
Students will be taught how to program a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), commonly used in the industrial automation industry, to generate and control various lighting patterns and dance sequences for a musical fountain. Prior programming knowledge is not necessary.

Digital Photography
Students will be taught the professional skills in using a Digital SLR camera to shoot and capture all kinds of photo (day, macro, night, portraits, etc.) and use professional graphics software (Lightroom and Photoshop) to modify and enhance the final presentations.

Music Synthesis
Interested to record your own singing with a virtual band (with professional drums, acoustic guitars, pianos)? In this workshop, students learn to create virtual musical instruments, setup microphones with the right volume and record the singing. The final stereo recording can also be converted to MP3 format to bring home for listening pleasure.

Introduction to Audio Amplifier Design
Like to make an amplifier with 3-band equalizer for your headphone? This workshop will enable students to design a simple amplifier to be plugged into any MP3 player or handphone with TRS connector to let you enjoy your music better.

Electronic Tic-Tac-Toe*
A 2 to 3-hour session where participants learn to assemble a circuit board on which they can play a game of Tic-Tac-Toe, not with pen and paper but with push buttons and LEDs. The intelligent and fun game can be played over and over again.
 
Magic of Science
A 1-hour action-packed magic show which uses tricks to highlight amazing science facts and engineering applications. Principles of sound, air pressure, light and forces will be revealed MAGICALLY. You get to perform some of the tricks during the show.

Laboratory/Technology Centre Tours
Take a tour of our Aerospace Electronics Lab, Biomedical Engineering Centre, Digital Processing Centre, Network Systems & Security Lab and Microelectronics Lab. Approximately 20-30 minutes per centre/lab.

For Upper Secondary School Students:

Musical Christmas Tree*
A 2 to 3-hour session where participants learn to construct a musical tree with LEDs and electronic components. It will blink and play music at the same time.

Melody LED
A 2-hour session where participants learn to construct a circuit board with flashing LEDs and catchy melodies. You can even select the music that you like.

Setting up and Protecting a Home Wireless Network
A 2-hour talk with tips to secure Internet access points from unwanted intrusion into a home wireless network.

*A fee of $15 is required per student.

Tech Trek Programme
A 3-hour programme where participants can undertake any 2 or 3 learning activities of their choice out of the following. These learning activities range from mechanics to material science to electronics & robotics and many more:

  • Charpy’s Knockout Punch
Glider Workshop Cum Competition
A half-day workshop for participants to design and construct their own gliders using balsa wood. Students would be able to appreciate concepts like aerodynamics, theory of flight, etc. A contest will be held at the end of the programme for participants to pit their gliders against one another.

Plastic Injection Moulding
A 3-hour technical session to understand the basic techniques of vacuum forming and plastic injection moulding.

ME Tour and Course Familiarization
A customizable tour to familiarize participants with the course objectives and facilities within the Mechanical Engineering Division. Tour will include the various Technology Centres and laboratories that support the practical elements of the courses.

Beautifying the Environment
This half-day event is held in conjunction with schools’ Community Involvement Programme (CIP) where participants get to gain awareness of a clean and green environment through a cleanup and trek through a park or nature reserve.

Web Page Enhancement
A half-day workshop to learn the basic design principles in creating web pages.

Tips and Tricks for Stylish Office (Presentation Skills)
A half-day workshop to learn to create stylish reports using captivating animations for presentations.

Virtual Combat Robot Game
A half-day workshop where participants get to devise strategies and program them into a virtual “robotic tank” to make it intelligent and able to react to all possible “attacks”.

Event Management
This workshop introduces students to the basic concepts and elements of business process planning and costing and allows them to apply the basic skills of event planning and organization through hands-on activities.

For Upper Secondary School Students:

Logistics Management Game
A half-day event where participants play the roles of retailers, suppliers, etc to simulate a supply chain in a real business.

Mathematics Proficiency Test
A half-day session to assess participants’ understanding of Mathematics fundamentals and concepts through computerised tests.

Learn Physics using LabVIEW
A half-day workshop to learn how to solve kinematics problems using LabVIEW.

Film & Media Studies Press Here
A 2-hour session with the students behind NP’s campus newspaper, lifestyle magazine and e-zine (theurbanwire.com) who will share their experiences and challenges in producing and managing these publications.

The Radio Experience
A 3-hour workshop to understand and practise simple radio production techniques, including basic editing process and on-air presentation skills.

Studio Tours
A 1-hour tour conducted for school groups to familiarise themselves with the learning approaches and training facilities in the School of Film & Media Studies.

Basic Video Production
A 2-day workshop on the art and techniques of basic video-making with hands-on practice in planning, shooting and editing a video production.

CR8-VFX With Photoshop
Image manipulation or photo retouching is a basic skill that an effects artist should have. This 4-hour workshop will help students grasp the basics of image manipulation using Adobe Photoshop.

CR8-VFX With After-Effects
Compositing is an integral part of an effects shot. In this workshop, students will go through the basics of compositing, 2-D animation and simple effects using Adobe After Effects.

CR8-VFX using 3-D Software
An effects shot would be incomplete without computer-generated imagery (CGI) to enhance the scene. This 4-hour workshop introduces the basics of 3-D modelling, materials application, lighting and camera setup using Softimage XSI.

Press On
A 2-day workshop for students who have experience in producing school publications. This will help to refine the skills that go into producing a polished print or online publication.

Scriptwriting for Radio
A 2-day workshop to learn the process of content gathering, use of language and appropriate words and script formats for different genres of radio programmes, such as news, info-capsules, drama and commercial productions for radio.

Storytelling for the Screen
A 2-day workshop on creating stories for the screen where participants have opportunities to develop their own unique ideas using various techniques.

Health Sciences An Encounter @ Health Sciences
This unique event introduces the nursing career to students. It includes a half-day session where students are engaged in fun-filled hands-on practices of various nursing skills.

Every Second Count
The workshop highlights the importance of rendering assistance in times of urgency and acquiring knowledge of basic First Aid skills.  It introduces Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) skills and other critical skills that will help in minimizing the severity of injury or sudden illness and death.

Emergency – At the operating Table
The programme exposes students to emergency management in the Intensive Care Unit, Paediatric Intensive Care Operating Theatre and the Delivery Suite.

Adrenalin Rush
Feel the adrenalin rush as you go through our simulation labs and hands-on experience with needles and sutures.

Under this annual student-train-student programme, Ngee Ann students act as mentors to train secondary school students in IT skills. The mentors will help the students to explore and develop IT-related activities in their school clubs and societies.

IT-savvy secondary school students are invited to learn cutting-edge technology skills in the School of InfoComm Technology during school vacations. They will pick up added skills that can be useful for their school IT projects.

Creative Sparks

Power Up Your Speech
A 3-hour workshop where participants can acquire oral presentation skills and gain confidence in speaking before an audience.

Serious Fun in E-Games Design
A 3-hour workshop where participants get to understand the elementary processes and skills involved in game design as well as career opportunities in the game development industry.

Exploring Social Psychology
A 1-day programme to learn basic social psychology concepts through fun social experiments.

The World is my Oyster: A Look at the World through Singapore Eyes
The 21st Century has changed the face of the world as we know it. This 2-hour workshop will help students to learn about important international issues as seen from the perspective of Singapore. The workshop will examine issues as diverse as terrorism and racial discrimination, and help students to make sense of today's multifaceted world. It is preferred for the students to have access to the Internet during the workshop as the session will utilise online learning methods for a more interactive learning session.

When Worlds Collide: A Study of War
The classical Clauswitz definition of war as a "continuation of policy by other means" has provided the framework for our understanding of the nature of war. This 2-hour workshop provides a background for the reasons why states go to war. It also examines Singapore's national defence policies and provides an insight into why the twin tenets of deterrence and diplomacy have served as the mainstay of the Republic's foreign policy.

Cyber Wellness: A Road Map through Cyberspace
The Internet has become an integral part of everyday life for youths from all walks of life. This 2-hour workshop will help students to navigate through the highways of cyberspace in a safe and meaningful way. The workshop will examine the perils of living a dangerous cyber existence and provide students with a guide on how to use the Internet in a safe and responsible manner. It is preferred for the students to have access to the Internet during the workshop as the session will utilise online learning methods for a more interactive learning session.

Neuro Linguistic Programming
What causes you to react so differently from one person to another when faced with the same situation? Why is it that your learning style is so different from someone else's? How do you build rapport and influence someone's behaviour to be like you? Neuro Linguistic Programming, or NLP concepts apply to all of us in our daily lives. This is a 1-day course aimed at helping you understand and explore the various NLP concepts and seeing how we can use them, through experiential learning, to achieve better performance in all aspects of life.
