103 PCS Year 1 to 3 students took time from their busy schedules on 17 July 2010, Saturday, to participate in The Denim Challenge, a competition to collect the most number of jeans for a needy cause!
The challenge aims to raise funds for World Vision One Life Fund, an educational bursary scheme for children and youths in Singapore who have HIV/AIDS or whose parents are afflicted with the disease.
The event was spearheaded by Year 1 students who publicised the event with posters placed at the blocks of Bukit Batok, Ayer Rajah and Clementi housing estates in the week leading up to 17 Jul. On the event day, my classmates and I were grouped together with our Year 1 juniors and Year 3 seniors in the same tutorial groups in NP before setting off to the housing estates.
Combing the various blocks we were allocated too, we met a couple of very generous and friendly donors who searched high and low in their homes for denim items. Though it was tiring to knock and approach people door-to-door, the actions of the public encouraged and spurred us on to go the extra mile with our smiles.

It was a fruitful time of bonding across the 3 cohorts within the PCS community. Our seniors shared their project and internship experiences while our juniors asked us on the modules they will be taking in the coming semesters.
At the end of the fruitful day, we collected over 700 pairs of jeans, way over the targeted 500 pairs! The collection of denim continued in NP from 27 to 39 Jul and the final number reached was over 1000 pairs! A commendable effort indeed by the PCS students!
