Together with Confucius Institute (NTU), HMS co-organised the Public Seminar on Translation and Writing by renowned scholar and writer, Professor Yu Guangzhong, on 5 September 2009 at the Convention Centre.

This event was an award presentation of winning essays in a National Writing Competition sponsored by Lien Shih Sheng Youth Fund. Over 1,400 secondary and JC students and teachers attended the event.  The Guest of Honour was Ms Grace Fu, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of National Development and Ministry of Education.

Four Chinese Studies (CHS) and Chinese Media and Communicatins (CMC) students also presented a 20 minutes poetry recital.
