What is this course about? |
|
This course trains students to be professionals in helping children, youth, elderly and the disabled etc. The curriculum in this first and only course in polytechnic includes psychology, social & community studies, communication, counselling skills, social research and IT applications. There will also be field trips, hands-on practicum, and student research project. |

What is the difference between psychiatry and psychology? |
|
Psychiatry is a medical specialty dealing with the prevention, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of mental illness. Most psychiatrists work in hospitals.
Psychology is an academic and applied discipline that covers the the scientific investigation of mental processes and behavior. Psychology also refers to the application of such knowledge to various spheres of human activity such as education, work, health and relationships. Psychologists work in schools, hospitals, organisations, prisons, judicial courts, counseling centres etc. |

Where are students posted for industrial attachments? |
|
There are many opportunities for attachments. Students may be posted to counseling centres and clinics, hospitals, family service centres, welfare homes and organisations and other volunteer-welfare organisations. |

There is a research module in the PCS course. Does it mean students have to do research too? |
|
The research and statistics module lays a foundation for all behaviourial science students. Students will be well-prepared for further training in the study of human behaviours. Student research projects will be guided and supervised by suitably academic staff. | |
