 E. Further Studies and Career Prospects

1. Will I have any opportunity to pursue a degree in Chinese Language eventually?
All graduates from the Diploma in Chinese Studies (CHS) will have the opportunity to apply for study leave to pursue degree courses to upgrade themselves. As for the teaching track graduates, while in service, they can also apply for MOE sponsorship, e.g. interest-free study loan, while they pursue a degree course in Chinese Studies. If you do well in the 4-year course, you could also be offered direct admission to the BA (Edun) degree course at NTU/NIE immediately after your 4-year course.
2. Will I have an opportunity to teach Chinese Language at the Secondary/ JC level?
The teaching track of the Diploma in Chinese Studies course is tailored to train candidates to teach Chinese Language at the primary school level. However, there are opportunities for one to apply for study leave to pursue degree courses after a few years of teaching. Thereafter, the candidate could teach in a secondary school/JC depending on the overall staffing needs then.
3. What will be my career prospects if I study CHS?
Graduates can join a team of much-needed groundbreaking Chinese language teachers in our primary schools. With their newfound mastery of Chinese, students may also choose careers in the Chinese media, whether locally or abroad, in business or in translation and interpretation.
