bullet Advanced standing to complete a four-year degree in just two years at Wheelock College (Singapore) with highly subsidised tuition fee

bullet Scholarships and study awards offered by MCYS, PCF and Temasek Care

About the Diploma

Think you have what it takes to shape and guide young learners? Then the Diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECH) is for you. The first such full-time diploma in Singapore, ECH has been established for over a decade with an experienced teaching faculty.

You will learn about play in the early years, curriculum design and assessment, child health and nutrition, and the holistic development of young children. In addition to teaching skills, the course equips you with management and leadership skills. With ECH, you can go on to become a supervisor or principal of a kindergarten or childcare centre.

Weekly attachments with childcare centres right from your first year means that you get to apply and hone your skills alongside experienced teachers.

ECH is fully accredited by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) and Ministry of Education (MOE). The diploma is delivered jointly with the SEED Institute which also runs The Caterpillar’s Cove, a child development centre set up by Ngee Ann. The Centre gives students a platform to work with children on campus.

In your final year, you can look forward to working on an Action Research Project to develop a programme or product, or implement changes to curriculum and classroom environment.

Scholarships

A number of scholarships will be awarded to Ngee Ann students taking programmes in early childhood education. The scholarships, which will cover full tuition fees, text books and laptop allowances, will be awarded to students with good 'O' Level results and CCA.

Career Prospects

You can start your career as an early childhood educator and go on to become a supervisor or principal of an early childhood centre. You can also work in agencies that offer services for children and families.

"The ECH course provided great exposure with opportunities to observe and teach in pre-school centres. The practical learning was fun, challenging and enriching. Besides hands-on teaching experience, the leadership modules that prepared me for my supervisory duties were very useful. Getting the 2-in-1 diploma was a bonus!"

- Nurliza Bte Mohd Shah, 2006 graduate, Pre-school Supervisor
