About the Diploma

Think you have what it takes to shape and guide the future generation? Then our Diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECH) is the course for you. Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) is the only local tertiary institution with a full-time diploma in ECH.

Learn about play in the early years, curriculum design and assessment, and child health and nutrition. You will also gain an awareness of the cognitive and physical development of young children. Along with teaching skills, the course equips you with the necessary management and leadership skills to run and manage an early childhood education programme.

The programme is accredited by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS), and the Ministry of Education (MOE) as a professional qualification for early childhood educators and supervisors/principals of early childhood settings. The diploma is codelivered with the Regional Training and Resource Centre in Early Childhood Care and Education for Asia (RTRC Asia) which also runs the Caterpillar’s Cove, a child development centre set up by Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

Right from Year One, you will be placed on weekly attachments to childcare centres and kindergartens to work with young children alongside experienced teachers. (Field practicums are academically assessed and will not be remunerated.)

In the final year, you can look forward to the challenge of completing a classroom-based Action Research Project to improve a curriculum or the classroom environment.

Scholarships

The Ministy of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) will award scholarships to Ngee Ann students taking programmes in early childhood education. The scholarships, which will cover full tuition fees, text books and laptop allowances, will be awarded to students with good 'O' Level results and CCA.
