Specialist Diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECD) 


Introduction

This part-time Specialist Diploma course has been accredited by MOE-MCYS at the Diploma of Early Childhood Education - Teaching and Leadership levels. This diploma is recognised as a professional qualification.

Course Objective

This course aims to produce early childhood education professionals of high standing. A graduate from this course can expect to work as a teacher, supervisor ( after two years experience ) or owner of a childcare centre.

Who Should Attend

This is suitable for those who are interested in a career change or have a desire to pursue a recognised professional qualification in early childhood education without leaving the security of their full-time job.

Year 2

  • The Creative Curriculum
  • Working with the Family and Community
  • Managing an Early Childhood Centre
  • Supervised Practicum 3
  • The Inquiry Curriculum
  • Process of Administration in Early Childhood Settings
  • Action Research
  • Supervised Practicum 4
Mode of Study

Candidates are expected to attend lectures, tutorials as well as supervised field practicum placements, lead-in days, briefing and debriefing sessions, and conduct field work.

As all these practical placements, lead-in days, briefing/debriefing sessions and fieldwork will be carried out during the day, candidates are expected to make their own leave arrangements to fulfil the requirements of the compulsory modules.

Minimum Entry Requirements

The following entry requirements are :

  1. A recognised polytechnic diploma or university degree
  2. A successful entry interview
  3. A medical report on acceptance into the course, stating your fitness to work with young children.

Other Requirements

Applicants are required to submit an essay (of not more than 250 words) on the reasons for selecting this course. The essay should indicate any experience interacting with children as well. Please submit this together with the application fee and your documents within a week of your online application.
