With over 80 per cent of the course conducted in Chinese, you will acquire a solid grounding in areas such as Chinese history, literature, popular culture and communication. You will also be trained in practical skills such as translation and media production. You will also get to choose from two exciting specialisations in your final year! Want to be a primary school Chinese language teacher? Choose the Teaching Track and you will spend your final semester at the National Institute of Education (NIE). Upon graduation, you will spend another year at NIE, at the end of which you will receive a Diploma in Education (Chinese Specialisation) awarded by NIE.
Students on this track can apply directly to the Ministry of Education (MOE) for a teaching bursary which will cover your tuition fees plus a monthly allowance.
Alternatively, you can choose the Non-Teaching Track and spend a semester working on an industry project or blazing your way through an internship in your final year.
All final-year CHS students will also spend one semester in China at top universities such as Huazhong Normal University. There, you will attend classes and get to experience China in all its glory!
Step out with your CHS diploma and you’ll be sought after by companies that need professionals strong in the Chinese language. You’ll be able to find jobs as Chinese language teachers, translators and interpreters.
You will also have the competitive advantage when you work with local firms or MNCs with a presence in China, thanks to your language proficiency and overseas exposure!
