Ready? Set? Let's go!

Judging from my title and my previous post, I do believe you would know by now that I went to The F1 in Schools Championship today. And only one word can describe the whole event: MAGNIFICENT! I was absolutely delighted to see so many people at the Convention Centre. And they were not just any people. They were the participants of the championship, as well as those who came to support their country's team. Walking around and looking at the booths, I spotted one of the cooler displays. It's a car model of the Irish's team, Govannon Racing's car.

Look at it being suspended in the air! It was so cool I just had to GIF it.

Govannon Racing has the fastest timing so far, speeding at exactly 1.056 seconds!

Here are more photos to show you how excited and happy they were when the results were announced:

Competing with them was Czech Republic's team, Speed Performance Show Team. They have been preparing for this competition for 3 months! Can you imagine the amount of hardwork and effort they've put into this competition? It's just simply amazing!

All eyes on the car, ready to roll!

And here's a group shot of the team, who will be making more preparations for tomorrow's competition:

While walking about, I spotted some of our school's students who are playing hosts to the foreigners! They toured the different teams around Singapore yesterday and they have also been the teams' guide around the school and outside. Thanks for the hardwork people!

Meet Jojo, Nurul and Iskandar!

After going from booth to booth chatting with the teams, I located Singapore's very own team from Henderson Secondary School! They are a group of 4 secondary three students who have been going through years of training in the school's CCA (Design & Innovation). Schaeffler Hypersonic is the second fastest team, right behind Govannon Racing! I'm so proud of you guys, keep it up!

Check out the members of Schaeffler Hypersonic!

And here's one with our students and them:

After the timed races, we were all requested to be seated as we listened to Richard Bradley - renowned British kart racing champion and F1 in Schools Ambassador. And I tell you this, I never knew that there was so much to benefit from motorsports until I attended this talk. It was so fascinating! Swiftly after he got off the stage, I went up to him and took a picture with him!

I'm just so honoured to be standing next to him.

Check out the souvenirs I got today:

All in all, I'm really glad I came down to school today for this event. I think this one-in-a-lifetime experience is really worth it. The whole event was such an eye-opener for me. On top of that, I also got to chat with lots of lovely people! Even though I may not have the opportunity to attend the actual F1 racing with all the famous racers, I feel contented that I actually attended this event, held in Ngee Ann Polytechnic. If it was the old me, I could never understand the excitement and nervousness of watching a race, anticipating the results. But after today's experience, I do believe I will never forget this feeling I felt today. So, to all of you out there, head down to Ngee Ann Polytechnic Convention Centre to catch the competitions! Once again, this is Noel zooming off~ Till next time!

You just got to ignite the light and let it shine.

After not seeing each other for quite some time, my friends and I finally met up yesterday to celebrate two of our friends' birthdays. And I could say it was one of the best celebrations I've ever had! We dined at Marché located at 313 Somerset! I shall now let the pictures do the talking...

And then we proceeded to play around with the Holga Fisheye Lens...

Now, a series of shots with the birthday girl in it...

P.s. She's the one on the left.

Here's a group shot of all of us:

And here are the two birthday babies!

The two birthday babies with the birthday cards I made for them.

If you think that was the end...YOU'RE WRONG! We headed over to Bukit Panjang Plaza's Macdonalds to let them eat their "cake". At the same time, it was also an excuse for us to stay out and catch up with each other.

And that would be the scrumptious Oreo Chocolate Bun!

Wan Ting (girl on the extreme right): Oh, my chocolate is dropping.
Yi Jun: OH CAMERA, I BETTER LOOK THERE.
Mariz (girl on the far left): Urgggh just let me eat my bread.

And now they're all picture perfect!

Once again, A Big Happy Birthday to Yi Jun & Laura! Yesterday was one of the best nights of my life! I believe all of us will miss fun sessions like this! And especially Laura, who will be going on an overseas trip! Why? Because she's from International Business and students there get the opportunity to go overseas EVERY YEAR! She's going to be in Shanghai for one month! And at the same time, she's also taking the module, Enterprise Creation & Development over there!

Bye Laura, we're all going to miss you so bad!

After soaking in all of the awesomeness above, I am speechless at this point. All I can say is, I'm going to be attending the F1 event held in school, so you guys can look forward to that! I'm really stoked about it and I can't wait! This is Noel signing off, see you soon!

Chasing the Highland!

September 12, 2010 03:15 AM by Geraldine

Hey everyone!

As you know if you’ve been following our NP Friends blog, I’ve recently just finished my internship. So to celebrate the end of a rather gruelling five-month semester, our entire student-run media office decided to take a trip to Genting Highlands to soak in the cool air!

That super tall, long thing is the Spacedrop. I used to be fearless when I was a kid and would sit on that non-stop when I came to Genting. This time, I was too wimpy and freaked out by the horror stories. :(

The theme park was okay, and was pretty much the same as I remembered from the last time I went there, which was about three years ago.

The highlight of the trip: The Flying Coaster!

See! It's scary looking, right!

This one probably takes the cake. It’s the scariest and the most fun, and I was really scared while hanging on to the bars for my dear life. You literally fly in loops and turns and twists, and all I could think of while in the ride was: Dear God, please let my glasses not be crushed (or I’d be a blind bat for the rest of the trip.)

What a failure. I know. Haha. Got a rush of adrenaline afterwards, and then we all headed into the park (that ride was specially placed outside of the theme park) and we tried out everything we came across.

Um, another fun thing that we did was that we went to the Haunted House adventures. I’m really just a big wimp in truth, so while in there, mostly I was just scared stiff. Even before the beginning of the “adventure”, we had to get onto this elevator thing. The staff behind us banged the gate shut and I jumped like my tail got stepped on. And my cruel friends laughed. >_<

Two of my cruel, heartless friends. Naaaah, just kidding. They're nice. Kinda. :S And I don't know why Dawn was making a jabbing motion at Sophie. LOL.

Delight, who was tweeting/FB-ing with Starbucks' free Wi-Fi access! We were all nearly delirious with joy when we found out there was free Wi-Fi. Hehe. We are such social media addicts.

We also visited the Ripley’s Museum, which was pretty cool. There was this tunnel that we walked through and felt like we were spinning upside down because of the illusion. I got giddy~ /)o(\

The Pirate Ship. It's really lame. It's not scary at all. I was so bored. Really.

Oh! And the final best part that I just have to brag about. (It’s rare that I get something to brag about so put up with me. Or skip this part. I don’t care muahaha.)

-Start of bragging-

There’re lots of game stalls in the theme park, so while waiting around for the others to come back from their rides, we played some of the stall games. There was the “Throw a ring round the neck of a bottle and win a super huge toy” game (which I’m most definitely certain it is a scam!), and the “Shoot three pins down and win a medium-sized toy” game. I tried the former, and failed miserably.

I was all emo and then when I saw the guys playing the shooting game, I was naturally interested. (I love games like Time Crisis hehe) How can you not get excited? Shooting stuff! For fun! And the bonus was that you’d get a toy if you win!

I gave in to my temptation and picked up an air rifle, and then WHAM! I failed, but refused to give up. I had this feeling that I could win it, and that I really could do it. I tried again, and failed, but I was certain I knew how to shoot it this time, so I tried again…

AND WON! :D

Hehe. I started screaming for joy and jumping around and held up the teddy bear in triumph. I won it against all odds, despite it being a male-inclined kinda game. And the best part? I was the only one who won. And I'm just a girl. Hehehe.

The guys tried repeatedly to no avail, and their girlfriends even pleaded with me to teach them my tricks so that the boys could soothe their bruised male ego. Muahahahaha. Even my manager and teacher failed, and they went through NS OK! :P

-Ok end of bragging-

Dawn, the sweet designer whom I won it for. She's nice (and really deserves something nice back in return) and she got all excited after receiving the bear. :P

The roller coaster in the background was pretty fun. It reminds me of the Dark Carnival campaign. And Go-Karting, which the others played. :P

All of us who went on the trip, trying to act/look cool! I daresay we succeeded. Hehe :P

And that’s it about the trip!

By the way, npTribune Vol. 43 Issue 2 is out already!

Just head down to the library or the m:idea office for a copy of your campus newspaper, and if you’re too lazy, well here’s another option for you!

Go to http://nptribune.theurbanwire.com/ and download the latest issue in PDF format.

In this issue, we’re featuring a group of caring students who go beyond the classroom to provide company and health services to the elderly. We’ve also got other stuff like the funny stereotypes (let’s take a laugh at ourselves and enjoy the manga drawings!), a feature about Joyce and The Boys (they have kick-ass dance moves, so don’t mess with them), and places you can head to for lunch if you’ve got really long breaks!

(By the way, I think Olly Steeds is damn cool. *points at guy at top left of the front page* He's an investigative journalist and did lots of super cool spy-like stuff. Man, I wanna be a cool person like him. One day. Fighting!)

Don’t miss it, download it or get it from school now kay! :)

You make me feel like I'm living a teenage dream.

September 9, 2010 03:35 PM by Noel

After a hectic week full of studying and exams, I am back for more blogging! And today's topic would be on..............

MY FAVOURITE SINGER. I shall give you hints on who she is. She kissed a girl, she has a new album out now and she has a cat called kitty purry!

If you thought it was Katy Perry, YOU GOT IT RIGHT!!!

In case you wonder why I have a sudden outburst about her, it's mainly because her new album, Teenage Dream, just got released not long ago! I would think it's her best album yet! Let me show you some pictures when I got my hands on it...

On top of her new album, I also went to her interview with Eon5ive last month! Here's some pictures to show you Mediacorp and their wonderful props, sweets and cake!

If you were to ask me why she is my favourite singer, my answer is that she can't be summed up with just words alone. Therefore, I provided you with pictures. A picture is worth a thousand words right? I think I just used around 11,000 words to describe Katy Perry's awesomeness :D So, here's one last picture of Katy Perry to make you go, "Aww!"

(Some pictures were courtesy of my friend, Sherlene!)

In case you didn't know, Katy Perry is also featured on our school's magazine, HYPE! To top it off, HYPE was on the newspaper! So, till next time peeps! Join me, Noel, again next week for further updates~

Exam 101: Where, What, How.

September 1, 2010 05:09 PM by Noel

Exams were always tough for me. They were like the bane of my existence. We always thought that when we go to Poly, we would no longer have exams, but that's not true. I have exams now and will still have them when I go to the other semester.

However, I managed to overcome my fear for the exams. How? By studying hard and being well prepared for it!!! (I know I'm stating the obvious, forgive me for that.)

One of the most conducive environments is obviously the...

LIBRARY!

I love it when the library is quieter during the holidays and you can just enclose yourself in the room and do a whole day of studying. Besides the library, let me introduce some of the common places we study at:

The Attic

A wonderful place to study, I would say. With air-con and bean bags, it's hard to give studying here a miss!

Ourspace@72

As you can see from the pictures above, it's pretty huge in here. On top of that, there's a café here, so you can always charge up your battery before studying!

The Atrium

Out in the open, here is the place to hang out and study if you want to feel the breeze and enjoy the scenery!

under the Convention Centre

With lesser crowds walking pass this area, here is definitely one of the potential places for studying!

The Student Plaza

Need to run off somewhere after you're done with studying? Well, here's the right place since it's located next to the main bus stop!

Now moving on, what are some of the tips I have? Well, for me, I'm the type of person that prefers to block everything out when I'm studying. So, all I hear is my iTunes playlist!

Music has always played a big part in my life and I can never live without it. As such, it plays an important role in blocking out noises so that I can concentrate on reading my notes and studying on my own.

Another tip I have for studying: Study with friends if you can't do it alone!

I know some of you cannot concentrate when you're alone. You get distracted easily and end up surfing the net in the end (like myself). Thus, it is always wise to have someone there with you so that they can push you. It's like having a police officer telling you what you can/cannot do, just that this "police officer" is close to you.

Last but not least, I know some people are really visual, so colours/drawings really play a big part when note taking. Therefore, I took the liberty of borrowing my friends' notes to show you their magnificent "masterpieces".

Also, after taking a certain module, we often doodle on our notes to make them more interesting and fun! Check out what my friend did for me:

To sum it all up, never fear exams as long as you've studied hard enough! Do not fall into a mode of panic and end up blanking out on that day itself. STAY CALM AT ALL TIMES. Just grit your teeth and make the best out of it! We're all in this together so let's all study hard and give it our best shot! And for those of you who are already studying hard for the exams. Ganbatte!

P.s. I'm Noel and I will be blogging here from now on, so join me again next week for more updates!
