| Going to the movies or watching TV is more than just entertainment for you. You don’t want to just watch what’s on the screen – you’re bent on producing your own Golden Globe or Oscar winner someday. Sounds like you? Then the Diploma in Film, Sound & Video (FSV) might be the right choice as it aims to empower you to do just that. Just ask FSV alumnus Anthony Chen who made his mark as the first Singaporean to win at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in France. Or Boo Junfeng, the first local filmmaker to have his debut feature film premiere at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival’s International Critics’ Week. Then there is Woo Wan Fong, whose class project 64 won Best Short Film at FiRST Film Fest 2012. She is now on scholarship at Cambridge University in the UK to pursue her undergraduate degree. Inspired yet? The Art of Filmmaking FSV, Singapore’s most distinctive and sought- after filmmaking course gives you an excellent foundation in both the artistic and technical aspects of filmmaking. Stretch your imagination to tell compelling stories, and bring your works to life with a wide array of filmmaking tools and the latest post-production facilities.
Real-world Exposure Here, you will be able to chart your own path into the vibrant film and media industry. Work with a team of like-minded filmmakers to create your own graduation short film in your final year. You can undertake a variety of industry projects and interact with real clients as part of m:idea, Singapore’s first student-run media conglomerate. You could even embark on a six- month internship at a production company or one of the many other vital players in the film and media industry!
Making Their Mark FSV graduates have excelled at leading media companies like MediaCorp, started successful local production companies such as Upside Down Concepts and Oak3 Films, and even collaborated on international hits including Spider-Man 3 and Iron Man 2 . Some have also produced programmes that air worldwide on the National Geographic Channel, Discovery Channel and BBC. Technology Comes Alive in FSV! At FSV, you will get to polish your skills with the latest and widest array of industry-standard equipment. These include the latest HD digital cinema cameras, popular post-production tools such as Avid and ProTools, and DaVinci Resolve – the world’s most advanced colour grading system for film and TV. All that is left to do is for you to call out: “Lights, Camera, Action!”
Pursue your dream career in film or television production as a director, producer, cinematographer, editor, post-production supervisor, sound designer or scriptwriter. Or take up jobs involving motion graphics, sound recording and design, as well as content development.
Alternatively, you can choose to be your own boss and explore new frontiers by setting up your own production company. That’s exactly what FSV alumni Ian Wee and Lau Kah Hui did when they started Widescreen Media, one of the pioneers in Asia to produce HD and Stereoscopic 3D content.
Or why not become an independent filmmaker and wow the world with the next big hit?
FSV graduates enjoy advanced standing when taking up degree programmes at top film and media schools both locally and abroad. Many of our grads have also received scholarships and bursaries from the Public Service Commission, National Arts Council, Singapore Film Commission and the Media Development Authority of Singapore to pursue further studies at National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Stanford University (US), Cambridge University and National Film & Television School (both UK).
