About the Diploma

Think Different. Connecting People. Just Do it.

Ever wondered why companies spend millions of dollars to create unforgettable ads and product taglines such as these from Apple, Nokia and Nike? Do you think you could dream up campaigns that will be just as memorable? Explore these questions with the Diploma in Advertising & Public Relations (APR), the first of its kind launched by a polytechnic.

As an APR student, you will also get to discover for yourself why consumers are loyal to a particular brand and what affects their buying behaviour. You will learn to create captivating ad messages and craft compelling PR campaigns.

The result? An education that prepares you for an exciting career in marketing, advertising, public relations, marketing communications, sales & promotions, media planning and events management.

The Best of Advertising & PR

We believe you should be meeting the best n the business to learn the latest trends. This means our agency partners not only co-develop the APR curriculum, some of them also actively teach alongside our faculty. Learning has never been this relevant!

You will get a firm grasp of the key principles of advertising and public relations in your first year. With an integrated approach to marketing communications, this course will help you pick up skills in areas such as visual communication, broadcast media production and social psychology.

In your second year, you will learn the ropes of agency management, brand management and media planning. You will be trained to plan successful PR campaigns and manage crises. The best part is you get hands-on supervision and tips from our agency partners on a regular basis. Talk about getting real!

Then, put your knowledge and skills to the test by working on a multi-level integrated campaign with an external client in your final year. This graduation project was launched in April 2011 with Nokia as our first client.

You will also get to venture out on a six-month internship programme, either locally or abroad, to further hone your ability to work in a challenging agency environment.

Agency-based Learning

With a unique learning model that emphasises agency-based learning in your second year, APR gives you practical training by experts from leading agencies such as Hill & Knowlton, Weber Shandwick, Waggener Edstrom, Saatchi & Saatchi, Ogilvy & Mather/RedWorks, ZenithOptimedia and more!

This agency-based approach will prepare you for your internship, as you would already have had one complete year of agency exposure before going full steam into your internship in your final year.
Career Prospects

With the APR diploma under your belt, you will be sought after to help companies develop corporate brands, create brand personality, and promote products and services.

Look forward to a dynamic career in advertising and promotions, marketing communications, corporate communications, brand management, public relations, media buying and planning, sports marketing, and even consumer or investor relations!
Further Studies

You will be able to pursue degrees in related disciplines such as communications, media, advertising, public relations, marketing, arts and the social sciences at universities both locally and abroad.

You may receive between one and two years’ advanced standing from overseas degree programmes, including those at Curtin University, Monash University, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University in Australia and the UK’s University of Hertfordshire.

Beyond the fields of advertising and public relations, you may also pursue an accelerated two-year degree in Creative Producing by Chapman University, here at Ngee Ann Polytechnic.
