Feb 10 - FSV lecturer's film shortlisted for Berlin Film Festival 

Michael Kam's short film Masala Mama has been shortlisted to compete against 15 others around the world at the prestigious Berlin Film Festival from Feb 11 to 21. The only other local film nominated for Best Short Film at this festival was FSV alum Anthony Chen's Haze in 2008.


Oct 09 - NAC's Young Artist Award given to 3 FMS alum

Three of 2009's top honours at the National Arts Council (NAC) Arts Awards- the Young Artist Award (Film category) were awarded to 2 FSV and 1 Advanced Diploma in Film Progduction (ADFP) graduates on Oct 16. The winners, all nominated by FSV for their impressive body of work, are Anthony Chen, Boo Junfeng and Han Yew Kwang.

Sep 09 - FSV lecturer appointed to Singapore's Censorship Review Committee

FSV lecturer Vijay Chandran, who chairs MDA's Film Consultative Panel, was one of 17 members appointed to sit on the national review committee that will look at the suitability of content across all media platforms.


Jun 09 – Emmy Award-winner conducts sitcom workshop in FMS

Kris Trexler, who has won 2 Emmys in his long and illustrious career, shares with FMS staff and students, how smash American sitcoms are produced. Kris, a visiting lecturer at FMS, conducted the free four-day workshop.

 

Jun 09 – FSV alum helm “Here” in Cannes Film Fest 2009

FSV and ADFP alumni Jason Lai and Fran Borgia produced “Here”, a local film chosen as part of the Quinzaine des realisateurs (Directors’ Fortnight) of the 2009 Cannes Film Festival. It is slated to screen in Picturehouse. Many other FMS alumni talents were involved in the making of “Here”.


Feb 09 – Berlin Film Fest showcases “Tanjong Rhu”

“Tanjong Rhu”, a film by FSV grad Boo Junfeng, is screened at the prestigious Berlin International Film Festival. Junfeng is also one of the 5 FMS alumni who have been profiled in a book “My Creative Room – 20 profiles of Singapore’s Media Talents”, which was launched in the same month to raise funds for the Singapore International Film Festival.


Feb 09 – FSV lecturer shortlisted for Berlinale Talent Campus

Lecturer Michael Kam is one of only 15 filmmakers shortlisted from 250 international ones for the Berlin Today Awards 2010 competition at the Berlinale talent campus. He was among the 350 talents chosen to attend the talent campus out of 3,800 applicants from 128 countries.


Jan 09 – Drama productions all filmed in HD

Thanks to Sony’s sponsorship of 4 EX-1 HD cameras, all 8 drama production projects in FMS were shot in High Definition. These will be compiled into a featurette for public screening.


Dec 08 – FSV celebrates 15 glorious years

A party at St James Power Station, prizes worth thousands of dollars and networking with industry bigwigs was the order of the night as FSV celebrated 15 years of producing some of Singapore’s most talented and successful filmmakers.


Oct 08 – FSV grads win SFC Inaugural Feature Film funding

Alaric Tay and Boo Junfeng are among the 9 directors who will each get a quarter of a million dollars to direct a feature film.


Sep 08 – FSV grad snags first class honours at La Salle

Boo Junfeng graduates with top honours at La Salle College of the Arts, and as top student, he wins the inaugural McNally Award for excellence in Arts.


Aug 08 – FSV film wins 2008 Kodak Filmschool Competition (National Category)

Fuk Xing Luk, by FSV students beat film entries by postgraduate students of the famed NYU Tisch Asia to win the award. The film was also selected to screen at the 4th Internacional De Escuelas De Cine, a student film fest in Uruguay, alongside another FSV short film “My Home, My Heaven”.


Aug 08 – Student work stands out in “8 Minutes Youth Film Competition 2008”

3 FSV students pick up the Best Director Award and second prize at the “8 Minutes Youth Film Competition 2008” with their film “Rok, Jak, Gap!”. The national competition attracted 66 entries.


Jun 08 – FMS inks MOU with Chapman University

The MOU between top–ranked American film school Chapman University and us under the Poly-FSI (Foreign Specialised Institute) framework, lays the foundation for offering a BFA in Creative Producing on NP’s grounds.


May 08 – Jason Lai wins at Busan Asian Short Film Fest

The FSV alum became the first person to win the Best Asian Film Award at this competition with a documentary. His “The Trouble With Waiting” tells of  a Cambodian who hunts down his father’s murderer.


Apr 08 – FMS signs MOU with Beijing Film Academy

An agreement to share educational resources, work on collaborative projects and mutual film screenings, and have staff and student exchanges was made with China top film school and alma mater of Zhang Yimou and Chen Kaige.


Apr 08 – SIFF Short Film belongs to FSV alum

All 6 awards in the short film category of the 21st Singapore International Film Festival were swept by FSV graduates. Boo Junfeng was the biggest winner, sweeping Best Film, Best Director and Best Cinematography for Sharon Loh.

 

FMS congratulates our alumni for an almost clean sweep (1 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze) in the Film category of the Crowbar Awards 2007 on Aug 18 with their works- Bu Ye Tian, Tan Xin, Lynch and Snip.
